The Murderer's Apprentice

Standing on a balcony
Out by the sea
The waves crash endlessly
Staring back at me

They listen and wait
Watching and pacing
Sharpening the blade
Constantly erasing
Their pain

Dolls line the walls
Familiar faces painted on
They weep for my soul
Praying that I’ll soon be gone

I jump as a rabbit
Ears up and listening
I listen to the pounding drum
Of his crimson dripping daggerling

The door cracks open
An iron odor sways
Through the twisted halls
And into my brain

Inhalation of sanguine
Exhale the question
Will I ever leave this home
That became quite an obsession

I’m the murderer’s apprentice
Willingly taken by his chain
Dishevelled and bloodied
But euphoric all the same
It’s far too late to save me

Baby Teeth

It devoured me
Changed me
Made me anew
But because of this monster
Mine heart is askew

I left my baby teeth
Upon the church floor
My shoes at the doorway
Covered my open sores

Told my mind fairytales
Of faeries and witches’ spells
But my mind’s eye knew
I can’t hide this purpled bruise

I wear rotting chains
Forever on my wrists
Moving painstakingly slow
Towards the world’s abyss

Their eyes tell me shouts
Of how I could be
If I wasn’t held down
By the villain who sought me

But I’m a silly little child
Just a little pet
I shall believe the lies
That say I can’t,
Not yet

The cracks are painted over
Not gold or silver
But a rotting green clover
That begins to whither

The more dreams creep in
The more lies they believe
Now I’m burnt out
And I don’t know how to scream

I’m here, but not
I lie, but I believe
I’ll let myself die again
Let me be conceived

Faeries

I watch and wait
Sitting on the bank
Of the deep green pond
Humming a soft song

The pearls in my body
Begin to set
Now I know
There’s nothing to fret

My mind was a bedlam
My heart askew
Now all is silent
Now I shan’t move

I trail my hands
Along your face
The silhouette of my love
Taking me to that place

You were lost
But now are found
And now my mind
Is safe and sound

The fairies laugh
The lambs doth cry
Because I’ve come
To weep a goodbye

But thou shalt not weep
Not over me
For I am not lost
On the deep dark sea

Not on earth
Not in heaven
But somewhere out there
Where I can hold him again

Little Lamb

A little lamb weeps from the staircase
Legs infected with the scent of his whip
Stained glass peeks from her ribcage
My life I have been stripped

Young bees climb up the stairs
Smelling of putrid moral decay
The bee’s eyes have fallen from their minds
Now on the lamb weeping from the staircase

“Little Lamb! Little Lamb!
Why do you cry?”
A crystalline tear
runs from her eyes

“Take my being,
And tear it to shreds.
It’s the meat butcher’s fault
The epitome of dread.”

But the bees don’t stir
Why would they
Please pity the poor lamb
Now dead in the doorway

Close your eyes
Close your eyes
And go to sleep
My little lamb

Butterfly Pea

The girl of glass,
Stands solemn in the garden
To her chest her hands grasp,
A heart now hardened

What is that,
Far off in the clear?
It’s wings thin and soft
Doth shed a crystal tear

Come, silken flier
Moth of utter beauty
Into my garden of fire
Garden of immunity

The glass doll gazes
Into your pearlescent eyes
And with a small smile
Her heart lets out a cry

Might it be sorrow
Or might it be neglect
Sickness of love
That begins to collect

No, but peace
That fills her tattered soul
Fills the broken spaces
Makes her feel whole

Flower Girl

My dear flower girl
You’ve lost your touch,
Your petals are greyed
Your smile is stitched

My dear flower girl
A painted rose of mine
Though the bells may ring
Pray, sing not
Along with the broken chime

My dear flower girl
Might I lull you to slumber
As your hands untie
As you forget about your encumber

How can a heart still beat
A hand still touch
A girl still dream
Once she is torn to shreds
And bound about her broken bed

How can a smile still stay
When nothing then is here today
My child, my dear, my flower girl
Mine heart is torn for you
My pearl
