The ones who matter

I once believed you truly cared,
That love for my girls was something shared.
I thought when you smiled and held them near,
Your heart was honest, your intentions clear.
I watched Nyla with her bright light shine,
A heart so pure, a soul divine.
And Octavia, sweet with her wild little ways,
Bringing laughter and love to every day.
They are my world, my everything,
The reason behind each fight I bring.
So when someone claims they care for them too,
I pay attention to all they do.
Because words are easy, spoken so light,
But truth reveals itself in time and sight.
And now I see what I wished wasn’t true—
The love I thought was there never grew.
You showed me clearly where you stand,
Not through promises, but through empty hands.
Through silence, distance, and love withdrawn,
You proved your care was never strong.
It hurts because I wanted to believe,
Not everyone is quick to deceive.
But my daughters deserve a love that stays,
Not one that fades or walks away.
So I’ll protect their hearts with all I am,
Be their shelter, their safe place to land.
Because Nyla and Octavia deserve nothing less
Than real love, real care, and true tenderness.
And if you cannot give them that,
Then you no longer deserve where we’re at.
Because anyone in their lives should know from the start—
To love my daughters is to love my heart.
