Ria Sharma Poem
I'm not pretty enough to be praised,
But not ugly enough to be disgraced.
Not special enough to stand apart,
But not ordinary enough to lose my heart.
I see the likes stack on my screen,
And wonder what they really mean.
Do they see me, or just the light?
The angle, the pose, the filter right?
I look slim in every frame,
But what if that's not really my shape?
What if the breath I held so tight
Is the only reason I look alright?
What if the smile they all adore
Is hiding what I'm looking for?
What if the compliments I save
Were meant for a version that I gave?
Not fake enough to be a lie,
Not real enough to not ask why.
I stare at girls and think again,
Would I choose myself among them?
Not jealous enough to call it pain,
But not confident enough to stay the same.
Maybe I'm pretty, maybe I'm not,
Maybe beauty's a moving dot.
Maybe I'm loved, maybe I'm not,
Maybe I'm more than every thought.
But every mirror starts a trial,
And every picture lasts a while.
Maybe they're right,
Maybe they're not.
Maybe I'm everything
I say I'm not.
Maybe or maybe not,
Maybe that's the hardest part.

Ria Sharma Poem
They say I'm lucky, and maybe they're right,
You'd give me the sun if you knew how to fight.
You carried your wounds with a smile on your face,
And taught me to find a home in hard days.
But love came tangled, stitched with the blame,
Too many comparisons dressed up as shame.
And I learned real young what children can do,
How to make excuses for someone they love too.
Cause I know your story, I know your scars,
I know you gave me more than you had.
But knowing the reason don't soften the bruise,
It just makes it harder to tell you the truth.
And I love you, I do, I do,
God, I'd go through hell with you.
But there's a side of you I quietly hide,
A side I've forgiven a thousand times.
And maybe that's why I can't say you're wrong,
Cause I've been defending you all along.
But if love wasn't mine before I knew,
I wouldn't wish your storms on someone new.
You'd hold me close, then pull me apart,
Leave little cracks in a growing heart.
A slap, a lecture, a hurtful compare,
Then tell me it's love and I'd find it there.
And maybe it was, in the best way you knew,
But love shouldn't hurt just because it loves you.
Still I swallowed the parts that I couldn't refuse,
Cus children don't leave, they just learn what to lose.
So if another child asked me one day,
"Is she a good mother?" What would I say?
Id tell them you're funny, I'd tell them you're kind,
Id tell them your heart's been broken by life.
Id tell them you tried, I'd tell them it's true,
Then quietly pray they never meet you
Not because I hate you,
Not because I don't
Not because I forgot all the good.
But because I know you.
And maybe the saddest thing I've ever known
Is I'd choose you again...
only becus u were already home
