The me you never got to meet

5/11/26 1:53 P.M

You never stayed
Never stayed long enough to meet
Me.
You thought I was
Abrasive
Rude
Wrong
But I was a girl covered in armor cherishing her heart behind it
The heart already shattered but
She salvaged what she could
And managed to love in the dark with every crumbling piece
But you didn't see me
Me as the girl who listens to sad country songs
And thinks of the people who taught them to her
The girl who admired the sunsets
The sky dances with shades of rose and orange dreamsicle bleeding into blackness
 and quiet
You never saw the girl who loved silence
You saw the armor but never the crumbled girl behind it
The girl who cried at night wondering why
The girl who had paced in her room whispering to herself at 1 in the morning
The girl who cried at Instagram posts fearing she was missing out
You never stayed so you never met her
The girl behind the armor
Who finds beauty in everything
The bright sun
The dark night
The swaying trees
And whatever person was gentle enough to hear her and stay to see me.

The moment I realized im not over you

5/11/26 6:21 PM

In my bed windows open
Cool air filled the room
Rustling trees and sad country songs
I sat alone in the dark consumed by the songs you taught me to love
Hearing your voice in each line
Smelling your cologne in each guitar strum
Feeling your arms around me
With each drumbeat echoing through the dead night
I feel the pain of each heartstring stretch out to you then
Snap.
I cave and crawl back to you like an addict to her vice
I wish my addiction was something simple, a bottle, a powder,
something that doesn’t kiss your neck
then pretend not to see you in the hallway
I read the final messages you sent
Hoping i'd remember how my heart bent
But even through the fire the thought of you was ice cooling me
You made me cry and I still wanted you
You're the medicine I need but also the one killing me
I’m told you’re not good for me,
but my body and mind crave you anyway
And I looked at you with bedroom eyes, hoping you wouldn’t see the tears
and would want me back
 even for a night
But I never win that fight

Garden of thorns

5/13/26 8:03 pm

A perfect rectangular plot,
spanning nearly an acre,
its borders built from baby-blue planks
etched with soft phrases in looping, hopeful handwriting
the kind of words meant to soothe a trembling animal.

Inside, the world blooms loud.
Greenery swells in every direction,
vivid, bustling, almost holy,
as if Demeter herself had knelt here,
hands deep in the soil, whispering life awake.

Fruits drip with nectar sweet enough to ruin you.
Flowers flash colors stolen from the heavens
pinks, blues, purples, oranges, reds,
every shade that ever dared to exist.
Bees and butterflies circle like worshippers,
desperate to belong to something this gentle.

A path of flat, even stones invites me inward,
each one carved with a word of loving,
as if the garden already knows
I need convincing to stay.

I step into the oasis of color and breath,
birds greeting me with bright, charming song,
the air warm and soothing.

But then,
three steps in,
the chirping halts.
The sun strips itself from the sky.
The sweetness curdles in my throat.

The air turns sour.
The sky bruises dark.
And when I look again, really look,
the garden I trusted bares its claws.

Flowers open with carnivorous intent,
petals peeling back like jaws.
The soil reeks of iron
blood worked into fertilizer.
Roots lurch toward me,
Sensing the shame I thought I hid.
Vines coil tighter when I speak,
hissing like they know my secrets.

The gate slams behind me.
Locks itself.
And suddenly I’m trapped inside the place
I once believed was safe
a garden that now feeds on my regrets,
grows plump on my bloodshed,
thrives on the parts of me I never meant to show.

I am haunted by the realization
that the danger was never outside the fence.
It was always here,
waiting for me to step inside
and call it beautiful.

Rising death

5/12/26 12:47 pm

I am the waking sky.
From ravaged rose,
Vivid violets,
Bleeding blues,
And barbed Blackness.
Every bit of flesh, bone, and blood fills with Colors that sear through even iron-skinned bodies.
Rose-wounds, blood oozing from trust torn out of my chest.
Violet is the world stitched quiet at last.
Blue, sorrow puddled under my splintering ribs born from the nights you belonged everywhere but beside me.
And Black,
The part of me carved out by the blade of your tongue,
Left a cavity where warmth used to breathe.
Cold settles like dust in the hollow of my chest.
But even the darkest nights eventually thin,
And the sun emerges washing the darkness in gold that sings and colors carrying a mercy I never expected.
Each ray finds my shattered body where I fell,
The sun caresses me with warm hands pressing trust into my veins,
Light returning to my eyes,
And softness to my skin.
