The Chosen
People say not being the chosen one is the worst.
But what if it isn’t?
What if you’re chosen—
but for all the wrong reasons?
Yes, I was chosen,
just to be a measuring tool—
something to compare,
against unfinished things,
just to feel better about yourself.
Like a trophy,
kept in plain sight,
on a neatly managed shelf.
Only ever looked at
from a distance—
always just a glance,
never long enough to notice.
Perhaps if they had,
they would have seen the rust.
Yes, I was chosen—
as the permanent wrong choice,
the one that reminds you
of what you could have had.
Like a roll of dice—
“if only I had thrown it differently,
if only I got another number…”
If only.
I was always the what if.
I was chosen—
but only to blame,
like how you blame the corner
when you stub your toe.
Never atleast a deserving blame.
There’s a difference
between being chosen
and being wanted.
What’s the point of being chosen
if all you hear
is the echo
of the one who wasn’t?
Who is truly chosen?
And how do you even define it?
What’s the point of being chosen
if wanting never follows?

It was just another dull morning
Then you walked in
Casual clothes, but still managed to catch my attention
And somehow ended up being the muse of a picky artist
I was constantly stealing glances
Just couldn’t help looking at you
I have a hunch, you felt it too
The teacher cracked a lame joke
I rolled my eyes
but instinctively, I began searching for your face
Maybe somehow… out of million other possibilities
perhaps I could see your smile
And there it was
Like a twilight, I wasn’t meant to see
The sunlight, thru’ the window, struck him
diffusing softly around
lighting up the dim classroom
like the shimmer,
when the ocean reflects the sunlight
Everything about that moment, aligned
too perfectly to be accidental
As if that wasn’t enough
your smile….
It blurred everything around
I lost awareness of my surroundings
But came back to my senses by the teasings of my friends
from behind
I could only see you
so close thru’ my eyes, yet so far away
And just like that
I had a screenshot of you, in that moment
in the back of my head
like a memory, I wouldn’t forget
And want to relive every second
I wanted you woven into my sky
But turned out, you really were a twilight
Temporary, yet the most beautiful….
