Raul Cedo Poem
Familiar things force me to remember-
Memories so far,
Memories that flicker,
Blurs and fragments of moments I savour.
I walk the same path, but everything’s different
No matter what’s done, those times-
Forever bedridden.
I wished to forget them, knowing once is too many.
Even if I were to relive them-
Memory would continue to get me,
Memories that now instill fear,
Those which keep me here-
Remembrance, the thing I call-
Homesickness.
The joy which once filled me then,
Creates a new fear of times that end.
Those moments in which we shared,
That now, I realize, will forever be-
“There”

Raul Cedo Poem
One hour of life.
That's all he had,
The only thing the world gave him,
The only thing he knew.
That boy,
innocent, beautiful and clueless
Unwelcomed by the world,
Bombarded with hatred and pain,
Almost as if he absorbed the world's resentment,
But why?…
Why must He do this?…
Why must he bear our mistakes-
Our sins?
One hour,
Each tick
Robbed the boy of his life,
I watched it pass
I saw it wither,
Shriveled.
Despite that fact
the boy smiled-
It wasn’t childlike,
But one that knew more than I,
I felt as if I were a kid.
Although sadness overcame me,
I too smiled,
I felt warm,
safe—
reassured-
Reassured that everything was okay.
His life,
His life, although it was depressing-
His life was beautiful,
It felt longer than just one hour,
It was more than just his time,
It felt as if his life was larger,
His life had meaning,
Despite his small sentence,
I was relieved,
In his death,
selfishly—
I felt peace.

Raul Cedo Poem
It feels like it’s been forever,
Spending eternity unmoving,
Cluttered with bugs and branches—
Still, stuck to the same tree.
All I do is watch the stars,
Watching as they shine,
Each one trying to steal my gaze.
But then I saw the moon,
Infatuated, so full of life,
It didn’t bombard me with light,
Yet it was the brightest in sight.
Everything began to clear—
While I was left motionless,
My vision a blur—
I cried.
The moon gave me a choice,
To chase its light,
Or stay stuck on this tree.
And for once in my life—
I stood.
