Sumanya Suman Poem
Try
I try and try,
and utter a word.
Only to be left,
Ignored and unheard.
I try and try,
to tell what I feel.
Only to end up quiet,
Assuming that would heal.
I try and try,
to explain myself.
But end up with letters,
Unsent, up my shelf.
I try and try,
to prove my worth.
But end up being a disappointment,
A burden since birth.
I try and try,
to live my life.
Only to lose myself,
To that one kitchen knife.

Sumanya Suman Poem
Beautiful
I think I lost,
my ability to think,
For she is beautiful,
So much I might not blink.
The glint in her eyes,
and that mesmerising smile,
Her much-awaited presence,
one could sense from a mile.
With her baggy clothes and messy hair,
she shines among the crowd,
For she is beautiful,
clear and loud.
But behind that glow,
beneath that grace,
lies a world,
She'd rather not embrace.
The dark circles under her eyes,
showcase her sleepless nights,
The countless moments she spent with herself,
Engaged in silent fights.
Those engraved scars,
carve deep on her skin,
And the tear-stained letters,
that always end up in the bin.
The blemishes on her cheeks,
She hides with care,
The irritating acne,
She wishes weren't there.
The clothes too loose,
her frame too thin,
The curve she feels,
She doesn't fit in.
She hides her sorrows and keeps to herself,
With a grumpy face and grumpier mood.
The weight of words she heard about her body,
makes it hard to swallow her food.
She's told to smile,
to sit with grace,
To not speak her opinions,
and to know her place.
To dress just right,
to lower her stare,
As if the world,
It isn't hers to share.
She fears for herself,
as she walks alone,
A firm grip on her keys,
with a dialled number on the phone.
She's passionate and precise,
her imagination runs wild,
Yet somehow she's never,
her parents' ideal child.
Sometimes she's numb,
her silence too loud,
Her dreams are somewhere,
lost in the crowd.
She doubts herself,
She holds back her tears,
Thinking of her society,
she hesitates, she fears.
Yet even in her doubt,
She stands so tall,
For she is beautiful,
scars and all.
Through every tear,
through every fight.
For she is beautiful,
in her own light.

Sumanya Suman Poem
Scars of war
Children learn silence,
Before they learn words.
Their skies are painted with terror,
Rather than flying birds.
Borders painted with blood,
No map can erase.
Once shared land,
Now share a hateful gaze.
One hand destroys,
Thousand hands mourn.
In competition for power,
The innocent are torn.
The violence, the terror,
The dread, the demise.
The world, once a haven,
Now hell in disguise.
The innocent perish,
Their stories deprive.
While the people in power,
Grow stronger, survive.
Those hungry for power,
Fight and debate.
While the innocents struggle,
Against their fate.
Mothers weeping,
Wailing for their sons.
Who are fighting for their lives,
Amidst bloodshed and guns.
What once was a place,
With peace and blooms.
Is now reduced,
To a valley of dooms.
People once alive,
With stories to tell.
Now lie dead,
Bodies starting to smell.
That one friendly neighbourhood,
Where love filled the homes.
Seems to be lost somewhere,
In the huge pile of bones.
Fight for authority,
For power play.
Where innocents suffer,
For silence, they pray.
Over is the war,
Where one has lost.
One has victory,
But at what cost?
