Teak Heartbeat

Teak heartbeat beneath
my body on the old bed —
the doors are listening

What I Wish

I wish to go back in time,
to the stone age world of peace,
when no hand had yet carved the blade.

I wish to go back in time,
to days without walls or war,
before we learned to divide our hearts.

I wish to go back in time,
before class carved their names,
when faith was love, not the emblem flags.

I wish to go back in time,
when greed first donned its crown,
before leaders forgot the people's breath.

One Last Time

I have opened my veins,
And set the knife upon the table.

?The pet birds are screaming,
And the cat taps, again and again,
At the screen of a dead mobile.

?One last time—
I have filled the feeder
And the cat’s bowl to the brim.

Ashes of War

All around
bombs were falling,
bullets pouring down
like hard rain.

To save myself
I wrapped my arms
around dark trunk
of a tree.

From somewhere
a missile
clothed in fire
came rushing down
and struck the ground
beside us.

After a while—
when my senses returned—

tree had turned
into a charred skeleton,
and in my body
metal shards
were spitting blood.

In that moment
one dry leaf
from tree
began to touch
my wounds gently.

It whispered prayer—
may these wounds
dry soon.

And my wounds, too,
offered prayer for leaves —
may you too
turn green again.
