Invisible Things Still Hurt

Being taken for granted does not feel good. There must be an implied rule for men to advise women of the same lies. I have met the same man 100 times. When do I get to meet someone only once? Being hard is tiring but being soft is weakening. How do I be soft while also being strong? Humans kill ants without even knowing. Am I an ant? Because I can't be human. I get stepped on so much, it feels as if the person doesn't even realize it. Because if they realized it, why continue to inflict that much pain on someone? I have been told that I was better off dead, I have been told nobody will ever love me, I have been told I will die lonely, I have been told more painful than positive things. Sometimes I look in the mirror and see nothing reflecting back, as if I am a ghost. I feel ignored and only seen when someone is in need. Everyone loves me conditionally, when can I feel love unconditionally? When can I be catered to? When can I call on someone when I am in need? I can't and that's ok. Maybe one day, maybe not. Until then, I'll just continue to sit in this rain, waiting for the right sun to dry me up.

Hard Shell, Soft Yoke

What is it that makes me weak? What is it that I can't sleep? How come the smallest thing triggers and the biggest thing withers? I know my God exists, but I do not feel like an easy fix. Why does everyone leave me? Why don't I ever leave them? I know I deserve better and yet I still allow others the pleasure. The pleasure to hurt. The pleasure to use. The pleasure to abuse. The pleasure to apply such a pressure that turns my black skin blue. 100 times I've said I was tired. But 100 times more I did not have the desire to walk out that door. I don't find being tough easy to do anymore. The tougher I am, the harder it gets to pretend. Like an egg. Hard on the shell but the opposite lies within. I am ready for my yoke to spill out. I am ready for my shell to crack. No longer can I be hard. No longer can I choose to react. I love a lot. I want to be loved a lot.

The Truth I Avoided

I want different, I want better. Its a lot that I put up with that did not do anything except put me down. Its not until the day ends and the night begins where I'm able to finally see what lies within me. I see what makes me feel unimportant. I see what makes me feel taken for granted. I see what makes me feel unloved. I see what makes me feel. The thing about wanting different, wanting better, means letting go of the people and the habits that can block it from happening. I say I don't know, but deep down I know. I know what triggers me, I know why it triggers me. I know what bothers me, I know why it bothers me. I thought I didn't know why I tolerated the things I did. Was it because I didn't love myself? Was it because I didn't know my value? Truth is, I put up with stuff that puts me down because I know if I didn't, it would risk losing the person who doesn't deserve access to me anyway. How can someone who brings such discomfort and sorrow also be the same person I am not ready to lose yet? But like I said... I want different, I want better...

Happy Black History Month

i love my skin. God has blessed me. from the beginning of time, my skin has been seen as a weapon. my skin has been seen as a curse. my skin has been seen without even looking. the world was quick to judge and belittled my people to nothing. no voting rights. no human rights. men go work! women go produce! both tie my shoe! move wrong, get whipped. breathe wrong, ladies have to dip. bend down, bend over. bore children from a master who holds not just the whip but the pen to free and deliver. deliver to freedom or try to escape. harriet tubman tried but not many relate. some got stuck, some got free. some are in the ocean, from where the middle passage had to be. my skin i love. my skin i am unashamed of. we matter. we are loved. happy black history, those below and above.

Changing World, Unchanging Word

some friends come and go. some relationships never work. my God is my constant, so i serve as His servant. oh, how great is Calvary! for my sins, for yours, Jesus died. never can i be lonely. never should i be afraid. when serving an unchanging God. someone who will forever be the same. the things on earth are temporary. the thing He promises, eternal. tomorrow's not promised, take heed now. stop saying Jesus is coming when He is here now. never has He left, never will He leave. in the flesh or in the Spirit, His hand has always been on me. i love You God because You loved me first. constantly forgiving others because You healed my hurts. thank You for forgiving me. thank You for the grace. thank You for the mercy, when i brought shame to Your face. repentance is my friend, sin is my enemy. everyday i try, to continue having You within me.

Touch Grass

birds are chirping. bees are buzzing. the wind is blowing, while the sun is showing. clouds no rain. love with no pain. touch without bruises. conversations are now amusing. alone not lonely, peace looks good on me. once i was lost, but now i am found. feeling good within and even better out. sing and shout. dance and wiggle. i thank God for my growth. i thank God for my triggers. the triggers now have boundaries. my growth is astounding. to wake up and smile, thank God in the morning. able to walk. able to see. able to eat. able to be me. i can now touch grass and truly feel it. before, touching grass felt without feeling. birds are chirping. bees are buzzing. the wind is blowing while the sun is showing.

Choose the Unfamiliar

I think verbal abuse is worse than physical abuse. Physical abuse usually has a timeframe for healing. A cut can heal in a few days. A scratch can scab just over a few hours... But mental damage from verbal abuse? That can take anywhere from months to years. I was physically hurting from being mentally abused. Pain worse than grief for death. Pain worse than losing a parent because I lost myself too. I had to find myself and meet the new me. The new me was a stranger, I had to get to know her, learn her boundaries and her triggers. I realized that the old me deserved better and the new me would have better; Change is scary at times, but being loved by someone who doesn't love themselves is even scarier. Go for the unfamiliar! Accept the better because you do deserve it!
