Lolly the Leprecaun

Lolly was a Leprechaun
Who lived inside a Tree
A joy little fellow
As happy as could be
He loved a little fairy maiden
Who was called Penelope
And every day he used to watch
Her swimming in the river wild and free
And she used to flap her tiny wings
And fly around the place
In and out of the bushes
With such style and grace
The Blues and Greens mixed in her wings
Shone so spectacularly, and with ease
And the little Red and Blue dress she wore
Would rustle wildly in the breeze
But she rarely noticed Lolly
For he was not her type at all
She was in love with Peter pan
And ran at his every call
So lolly became miserable
And down in the dumps was he
And started staying in his hideout
Beneath the old Oak tree

But the fairy Godmother noticed
What was taking place down by the Pond
And tried to get Lolly to venture out
Down past the old Mill and far beyond
To find another Fairy
Who would love him in return
For he had so much feeling deep inside
And for Penelope he did yearn
As he sat upon a Mushroom
In a leafy glade in Butterfly Wood
He saw another little Fairy
So pretty and looked so good
Her found out her name was Mary
She had a captivating smile
And she was smitten with lolly’s bright blue eyes
So they began courting for a while
Now Lolly was a happy little Leprechaun again
Now true love had come his way
He would sing and dance the whole day through
Since Mary had come his way
The moral of this little tale
Never give up on happiness it may not be far away
It may be just around the corner, down by the stream
Who are we to say

The Poet that Paints Pictures with Words

An Artiste paints his pictures
With every stroke of his brush
Takes his time to see it through
He’s never in a rush
When his masterpiece is finished
He stands back to admire his work
Satisfied he has done his best
A bottle of wine he will uncork
He may have drawn his picture
Painted out his scene
Thinks that it’s so special
The best he’s ever seen
No luxury like that for me
I can only use a word
Describing what is in my mind
And things that I have heard
Paint a picture with my soul
Using only my imagination
Drawing a vision in my mind
And delivering it as a creation
The finished piece must always have
A beginning and an end
Like rhyming slang it has to say
What you did intend
Imagination is the key
To the words that come into my mind
Creating a masterpiece it would seem
Is a task so hard to find
An Artist has his colors at his disposal
I only have words to use
If he paints a classic picture
It’s always in the news
Bus a Poet’s work is more refined
Rarely in the public eye
No masterpiece created here
However I wonder why

Does it Rain in Heaven

I wonder if it rains in heaven
Or is it just Angel’s tears
That fall from clouds like lemon drops
To wash away our fears
Do they fly across the sky
Out of sight and sound
Their snowy wings to carry them through
As their hearts do gently pound
I wonder if it rains in heaven
Like it does on earth
To see torrents raging in that special place
To help their life’s rebirth
If God has a way with words
I wonder what he would say
About the rain in heaven
That keeps the Sun at bay
I wonder if it rains in heaven
I will find out when my time comes
Because when I pass on that’s where I will go
With my spirit just going home
All of us have lived before
We just return to our roots in time
Been around for a thousand years
At present we are in our prime
I wonder if it rains in heaven
Will it affect St. Peters Gate
I hope it is not rusty
And make me arrive to late
When I get to heaven
It will rain for sure I know
If not to cleanse my weary heart
But to wash out my immortal soul
Heaven opens up its gates
To all of us you see
Provided we have led a life
Full of tranquillity and purity
To feel those raindrops when I arrive
Those Angel’s will look after me
To be at peace for all my days
God and I in perfect harmony

A Teddy Bear

I am a big fat Teddy Bear
I sit upon the shelf
look down on all the other toys
my owner must have wealth
My ears are getting floppy
and my knees are rather worn
my coat is getting thinner
through all the wear and tear I’ve borne
Although it’s not surprising
as I’m over eighty years old
my foot feels as if it’s got gout
and I’m sure I’ve caught a cold
Now Johnny’s taking me off the shelf
I wonder what we will play today
will it be Cowboys and Indians?
that’s a game he likes to play
Sometimes we listen to music
all that pop noise hurts my head
thump, thump. thump all day long
I’m glad to go back to bed
But I like it best when he cuddles me
he’s only eight years old, you know
we fall asleep together a lot
off to the land of nod we go
We have many thrilling adventures
always together, don’t you see?
I just think the world of him
and I know he will always be there for me

The Duck that could,nt Swim

Watching by the river’s edge
Bright and early in the early morning glow
A female Duck came waddling by
With babies one to eight in a row
Into the water she did go
Little ones followed all in a row
Until it got to number eight
Who got to the edge and stopped to wait
Mother stopped and looked around
Little baby making a quacking sound
Come on in, she did imply
Baby shook his head as if to say why
Brothers, Sisters all looked on amazed
As brother on bank just sat and gazed
At the water, not impressed
Had no intention of being pressed
Into the water as mother wanted
This was one request, not to be granted
Dipped his foot into the water deep
Into this don’t think I will creep
I looked on bewildered and amused
To see a duck look so unenthused
Not intending to do as he was told
Though so small, but yet so bold
Back came mother and a chase ensued
Along the river bank I was bemused
To see this duck in hot pursuit
Of her baby who looked so cute
Once caught, mum grabbed him by the neck
Looked to say, you will by heck
Come into the water with all of us now
No time to waste, learn to swim somehow
Into the water the mother duck went
Full of parental good intent
Put her chick onto the water, who suddenly reared
Went up, went down and disappeared
Panic stricken mum dived down
Grabbed her son who was about to drown
He was panicking flapping his wing
And just as suddenly began to swim
Off he went across the water fast
Mum and remainder followed at last
Down the river they all swam
Out of sight down by the dam
I walked off slightly mystified
To see a Duck that nearly died
But all was well, it ended fine
They all swam off, all in a line

When I Look in the Mirror

When I look in the Mirror what do I see
A stranger looking back directly back at me
The lines on my face look haggard and drawn
My chin sags a bit not only when I yawn
My hair seems to be disappearing at a remarkable rate
I had better do something quickly before it’s too late
I used to look younger my appearance was great
Now I have to get used to whatever my fate
But at least my smile still remains the same
As for the rest there is no one else to blame
I am afraid old age catches up with us all in the end
My good memory helps it has become my best friend
My teeth are removable and have been for some time
My knees make funny noises when I walk about
And to cap it all I suffer from gout
But when I leave the mirror alone on the wall
I forget all of that so I can walk tall
Still enjoying that all life has to offer each and every day
So however I look that’s the way I will stay
So I make the most of the time that I have left on Gods Earth
And try to enjoy myself for all that it worth
I Ignore the Lumbago and pains in my legs and wrist
And all the other ailments that seem to exist
So it’s off to the pub to get a drop of liquid libation
Which so often is my only salvation
Old age is without doubt a pain in the neck
But I just carry on regardless so what the heck

A View from the Road

The most wonderful sight’s you will ever see
Is made by nature running free
Amongst the rolling Dales and Hills
Are pictures, magnificent, no made up frills
A combination of summer, winter in one view
The ground a mixture of green and brown hue
In the distance the trees so brown
With dying leaves hitting the ground
Bare and naked as nature intended
Its autumn so be not offended
It is their natural living state
As the time of the year is getting late
So, as we career through the winter days
A time when the cold Frost and Snow lays
The hills a patch of living white
From which the Moon reflects at night
Hidden by day from the noonday sun
Yes, nature’s illuminations have begun
The Badgers and Rabbits all dig deep
To find a burrow for their winter sleep
Only venturing out in search of food
And only then when in the mood
Trees snow covered look beautiful but forlorn
Each winter as nature becomes reborn
Always take the time to view
What Nature has provided for you
The most enduring sights you will ever see
On the land wild and free

Listen to the Wind

Listen to the Wind
What does it say today?
Will it tell me you love me?
In each and every way
Will the clouds still show pictures?
Of your face up in the sky
And will I see your lovely smile
As they gently pass me by
Will there be a Rainbow
After some morning rain
All those colours etched into my mind
Of passion until we meet again
When the Sun comes shining down
Casting a shadow walking next to me
It’s like you are with me right away
On my arm where you should always be
The Wind doth blow, and the Sun doth shine
Just like my thoughts of you in my heart
All I can say with fortitude
Thank God for my friends who are with me, always
When we are far apart

The Loneliness of Love

Sometimes when we are apart
It pulls deeply at the heart
No longer holding you and feeling your magic touch
Goes to show I miss you oh so much
Thoughts abound within my mind
Of how you are so sweet and kind
A thousand miles we may be apart
But our love has been etched from the very start
I feel you near, I hear your voice
Always thinking of you, that’s my choice it seems
Because my heart is yours forever, just like in my dreams
It’s lonely when you are so far away
But I wait, sit and pray
That time will pass swiftly to the day
When we are together for evermore
So when I hear that knock upon the door
And into each other’s arms we fall in deep embrace
With my hand can caress that wondrous face
Feel that kiss that sends me wild with lust
And my heart pounding fit to bust
I know the loneliness has gone at last
The hurt is put back into the past
Now together we will always be
The two of us in perfect harmony

My Heart the Postman and You

As I sit at staring at my mobile phone, waiting
For the telephone to ring
I think maybe I will be lucky
A love letter maybe, the Postman will bring
A message from the one I love
As true as true can be
Just remember that special love
Begins with you and me
Always in my thoughts and on my mind
The girl I left so far behind
Whose magic smile just melts my heart?
And took my very soul right from the start
I may be so far away
In a hostile land and against the enemy
But will be home again someday
Back to your arms, don’t you see?
So as I sit and wait for the daily post
The man who drifts in like a ghost
To bring weekly joy from his mailbag
The daily wait is such a drag
But the perfume on the paper I can smell
Just goes down, so very well
Reminds me what I miss so much
Your kisses and your wonderful touch
Sometimes, when I get down, and my mind wanders
Melancholy thoughts abound
Of times together, that may have past
And why I miss you so, when you are not around
So Mr Postman, do your best
Bring me that special message that I need
From my loved one so far away
Today I hope you can get through, Oh yes, Oh yes indeed
