Waiting for the Ground to Remember

I look to the sky for that small, distant sight,
already running from me into the light.

The ground stays closed, nothing giving an inch,
winter holding its line without reason to flinch.

My body still carries the shape of that day,
the rhythm, the pause, the clean send away.

So I wait where I am, not restless, not loud,
trusting the ground will remember me now.

Steel waits for grass it can't yet find,
The swing stays soft inside my mind.

I'd walk a long way for one clean release,
to send something forward and let it find peace.

Lost in the Weeds

To move ahead, we must glance behind,
For wisdom grows from a questioning mind.
We celebrate brilliance, dismiss those who fall,
Then treat every life as if shaped by one call.
But we come from seeds in unequal ground
Some richly nourished, others barely found.
Some grow in gardens, loved and seen,
Others choked by weeds, lost in between.
They search for light, for air to breathe,
But weeds grow fast and never leave.
Still, they reach, they fight, they cope,
Clinging to slivers of faith and hope.
Jesus comes with hands held wide,
To lift the fallen, walk beside.
He doesn't ask for wealth or fame
Just lay down the burden, release the blame.

For my Curling Friends

The hogline taught me to be precise
The backline taught me how to trust
But every path across this ice
 Leads me where it must.

The push is quieter than it once was.
The slide is calm and clean.
The rock listens when I take a pause,
Like it knows what I mean.

I’ve chased the weight, I’ve fought the curl,
Learned when to wait, when to release.
I’ve learned the lines the pebbles draw,
And found my touch with ease.

The house grows still. The brooms stand true.
 The moment sets me free.
I don’t throw to prove, I throw to place.
The tee line waits for me.

She lights up like the sky

She lights up like the sky
vast, endless in her glow.
No cloud of doubt can form,
no shadow left to grow.
No storm breaks on her horizon,
no thunder dares to speak,
for where her light is present,
darkness itself grows weak.

Far beyond a Tree

Like the root of a tree, it may be hard to see
How we could ever truly be free.
But the bark and branches swear it’s true
Just feel how tall you’ve grown, how you grew.

You stretch toward the sun,
Looking out for everyone.
Learning storms don’t come to stay,
They only teach you how to sway.

Rings inside you mark the years,
Every joy, every fear.
Every season left a trace,
Every scar still holds its place.

You may be buried deep,
But only while you sleep.
Darkness isn’t where you end
It’s where beginnings quietly bend.

You drank from doubt, you drank from ache,
Still you chose not to break.
Still you chose to rise and breathe,
Still you chose to believe.

You’ve grown far beyond a tree,
Maybe now you’ll start to see
You were never meant to kneel,
You were born to grow and feel.

You were born to bend, not break,
Born to choose, born to make.
Born to reach past what you knew,
Born to become something true.

You’ve grown far beyond a tree,
Maybe now you’ll finally see
You were always meant to be free.

You can Pack my Bags

You can pack my bags and push me away,
but you can’t steal my yesterday.

You can block me out, shut every door,
yet love still lingers I’ve felt it before.
All the good times still remain,
even when wrapped inside the pain.

You can pack my bags and push me away,
but I’ve found the strength to walk my own way.
I played the fool, but now I see:
all I needed was you to set me free.

Dear Vessel of Life

Dear Vessel of Life,

Let your inner child be free
but first you must see
If your inner child comes to be
They will be just like you and me

Am I in a place they can be free
Or have I created an endless sea
If I start to gloat
They struggle to float
If I am filled with shame
They will certainly feel the same
They will try to swim
But our waves will beat them from within.

Pour out onto this earth
A clear and happy child birth
For the pain we hold so near
Will be that our children fear

Oh dearest child of mine
give me a sign
That you are strong and free
and I will make you come to be.

Army of Light

This world is bound around the heart,
For we are bound to do our part.
An idea forms, an army in light
One day, we'll stand together to fight.
The world's heart beats in you and me,
In bonds we forge, in hope we see.
In unity lies our greatest strength.
Together we'll rise and free the world at length.

Seasons of Change

I am willing to move with the seasons of change,
when snow falls and softens the ground,
when leaves surrender their colour,
and water keeps flowing, soundless and sure.
Like the green leaf turning auburn, so too do I.
I fall to make room for the future,
to plant a seed within the heart.
The path ahead grows clearer,
and here feels like a good place to start.

Judgement

Judgement is no joke.
For it colours reality in smoke.
A cloak for ego's yoke.
