Steven Schaffner Poem
He caught my eye as I walked by
at first I didn’t know him
His hair was thin and winkled skin
I was sure I didn’t know him
His eyes where hollow, his mind would follow
I didn’t want to know him
He shook his head, I filled with dread
I pretended not to know him
I tried to hide, he stayed beside
I screamed “I don’t know him”
As I stared at graying hair
I pleaded not to know him
But years go by and mirrors don’t lie
I’ll have to get to know him.

Steven Schaffner Poem
I found a key
I found a lock,
but open it do I dare?
this tiny room inside my mind
to see what lurks in there.

Steven Schaffner Poem
This time of year Santa’s tired
He fell asleep by the fire
His pointy ear elves
Jump in to help
So on Christmas he won’t be mired

Steven Schaffner Poem
Flash, white, piercing bright
sight runs down our cheeks
Blisters boil on blackened flesh
where yellow puss now seeps
Oxygen burnt from heated air
nothing left to breath
Piles of broken smoking bones
no one left to grieve
Before the thunderous roaring sound
splits our eardrums deep
Torrents of rushing, gushing wind
fling us from our feet.
Microscopic particles
penetrate our skins
Reaching down into our souls
to cleanse away our sins

Steven Schaffner Poem
I saw it crawling on the wall
I followed as it crawled down the hall
I watched as it crawled cross the floor
It turned and headed toward the door
I raised my foot, I brought it down
And heard that crunching, popping sound
It hit my heart, it cut it sore
To think this thing would crawl no more
