Breaking the Stereotype

Statistics show an epidemic
A problem at hand
the statistics are looking at me.

They say that my education is an unattainable, unfathomable, distant goal
That a life on the streets is the farthest I will ever go.
They say that my qualifications will limit my achievements,
They say I will be a never-ending victim of the streets,
Healed only by the dosage of incarceration
They say that I will desert the very ones I love and live a life
full of emptiness.
They say this is my destiny.

I refuse.
I refuse to molded by the world around me.
I refuse to yield to the expectations set before me to fail.
I refuse to limit my potential
I refuse to be the statistic’s advocate and follow its path to death and destruction.
I refuse to live my life dictated by the very one’s trying to destroying it.
I refuse to abandon this present journey I endure in breaking the stereotype,
which will end only when my children can enter this world, not having their lives
pre-
destined by it, but by following the path set forth by God.
I refuse to be my father,
Whoever he was?????

Marine Corps Salute

Fighting the fight way away from me
Reunited in my dream
I stand motionless
Eyeing his stillness
I inquire about his thoughts
His attention I caught
A silent conversation we had
Feeling everything but sad
Our brotherhood takes root
As I wake up to salute

U.S.M.C.

The Grass Is Greener

Violence, drugs, and war
He wakes up and hears the lions roar
Encompassed by this world
His dreams no longer held
Seeing no way out
He decides not to move out

No, screams his patient he is supposed to save
No, says his client that would be in his is court case
No, shouts his teammate with whom he’d play
No, whispers his daughter who he should create

In unison they tell him of his better life
The Grass is Greener on the other side

The Air Moves

The air moves in rhythm speaking to my soul
Inspiration, harmony, life
Its words surpassing all understanding
Fills my heart with purpose

The air moves in rhythm whispering in my ear
Faith, hope, trust
Its knowledge complete
Its understanding unfathomable

The air moves, we know
By the watching of the trees
At the pace of one

The World's Language

There is one language that is universal among all countries, tribes, ethnicities,
races,
peoples, and cultures.
There is one language that can speak a million things to one person, and one
thing to a
million different people.
There is one language that creates, motivates, and illustrates a chameleon
message,
shaped by its listener, cultivated by its audience, sustained by its maker

It can be classified, but never defined
It can be refined but never confined
It is structured spontaneity
With a hint of relativity

It reaches the unreachable
Touches the untouchable
And cures the incurable

It is the language of music

A Learned Lesson

Beep beep beep
The alarm wakens him
The traditions of the morning take place
He kisses his wife and kids, just like any other day
And off to work he goes
As the morning turns to noon, and the noon into night,
The cycle once again begins.

Beep beep beep
The alarm awakens him
His eyes open to an empty bed
Walking downstairs he notices the desertion of his house
In panic he runs outside
Turning around in circles, surrounded by nothing and no one
Alone…he surrenders to his knees.

Beep beep beep
The alarm awakens him
His wife in his arms, his kids by his side
“A second chance?” he thought
A second chance to not take for granted his blessed life
To give every part of himself to the ones who need it
To be, never again, alone.

Lost

Lost in a world of confusion, anger, and hate
In my soul
In my heart with a closed gate

Lost in this maze we call life
Running into every wall
Trying to avoid the strife

Not every question has an answer
Not every gray cloud brings rain
Life is a long journey
Lost is pain...

A Heart's Desire

A boy went to his mother claiming, he wants to be great.
“What do you mean son” asked his mother

I want to be someone you can be proud of
Someone everyone will love
I want to help people, support people, serve people
Be their strength, when they are feeble.
I want to create, motivate, and alleviate
the negative, relative mental state.
I want to provide homes for the homeless
Care for the careless and
Father the fatherless

“That’s wonderful” cried his mother.

But Mom, I can’t
“why not”? she asked.
As he spoke, he began slowly drifting
“You never had me…”

Waking up in tears
Her heart unclear
Her decision in fear…

She asks herself, what is her heart’s desire????

No More Days of Pain

It seemed as if it was the only answer
To give up all hope
To make all dreams become shattered
No way out, trapped by my mistakes
Seeing the brick wall of a dead end
My mind filled with thoughts of hate
Sitting under the rain
I made the decision to have
No More Days of Pain

Then…the heavens opened up
The lord descended upon
To tell me not to give up
With life in my left hand
Death in my right, I asked
Where will my life land
He answered… in my hands
Trust me, was whispered into my spirit
You will have more days of pain
But no longer will you sit under the rain.
