This Red

And so I went to the water,
To wash my wounds,
To cool my burns,
To calm my storms,
Yet still — I bled red.

And so I went to the water,
To dive for clarity,
To search for dignity,
To drown my fragility,
Yet still — I bled red.

And so I went to the water,
To find my innocence,
To forgive my insolence,
To cleanse my conscience,
Yet still — I bled red.

And so I went to the water,
And dwelled in pain,
To mend what love had broken,
To sew what had been torn,
To patch what life had scorned,
And yet — I still bled red.

This red won’t let me go.
This red has stayed.
For it is always the wounded
Who bleed—
Never the ones
Who carry the blade

Love Me Twice

There’s a Turkish saying —
“If you truly love someone, you love them twice.”

I want you to love me for the first time—
to feel that fearless rush
when our eyes first lock.

I want the scent of my perfume
to linger deep within your soul,
and my eyes to pierce your heart
as you glance at lips
still stained with shades of dusk.

And then,
I want to be loved again.

Love me when the waves kiss the sand.
Love me when each month, for days, I lose my spark.
Love me when the day kisses the moon at night.
Love me, so much that when it gets dark
you can guide me back to the light.

Love me once,
and then another time.
Love me still.
Love me steady.
Love me at will.
Love me always—
in peace,
in quiet.
Love me twice.

Rise, Again

The storm within may cloud the views,
But morning breaks with brighter hues.
It’s true — I have paid my dues,
Wanted so badly to be your muse.
Now I realize I was just confused,
It’s time to give myself the news:
I have grown — and it’s me you lose.

Noncommittal

I hope you truly look inside,
I always wish you’d choose what’s right.
I want this train to pass you by,
Until you’re no longer scared of heights.

I know it’s hard for you to trust,
Believe me—I’ve been this way before.
The process waits; you must adjust,
So dive within, and reach the core.

I know it sounds like an oxymoron,
But to reach heights you must conquer depth.
Carry on now, the chance coming upon,
Once you’re through, you’ll catch your breath.

You’ve told me you have felt alone,
As you’re many miles away from home.
Yet see how far you’ve truly grown,
I find you beneath that stone-cold dome.

Connection is what you at times crave,
But you’ve told your mind it must behave.
You sway from yes to no like the wave,
But wake, rise up—life will not wait.

Anxious Attachment

It is time.
I’ve had enough.
I see it, I feel it,
I recognize.

Risk versus benefit —
and I know the answer.
I have plenty of work to do here
