Ayanna Curry Poem
You bring me comfort, a reason to push you away
Used to lessons coming and going
Their blessings weren’t good enough to stay
Weary of whom I share my energy, interim people touching my lasting soul
Society’s habit I shy away
But you bring me peace
Thoughts of making you mine, words too vulnerable to speak
Could I be?
The word falling gives me anxiety
Eager to profess but ever so patiently
Waiting for a screw up, a sign to let up
So I’d have an excuse to blow up
Truth is, love is something I want to grow in
But it’s something that gets found without searching
Trust issues due to experiencing the worst within
Logic contradicting what my heart is urging
From never receiving what I was truly deserving
Due to toxic flames constantly emerging, from giving too much to those undeserving
So much so that I was blindly burning
Yet willing to try again after first degree hurting
For my other half that I can submerge in
To extinguish the fire in my loins, one that’s ever burning

Ayanna Curry Poem
This is dangerous
I mean you're dangerous
Your eyes make me nervous
Yet aroused
But that's what scares me more
I melt into you
And just want to pour
Pour into you
Being around you is dangerous
You're smile is contagious
Making me want to use your face
For my own services
Mr. Dangerous
You make me say things I have never said before
You have me thinking things I thought I never would before
Instantly
You are dangerous
Because I like you as more than just a friend
Now that intimacy is involved
I'd be damn if you had other "friends"
Not because I'm possessive
I just hate the thought of you
Making someone else's back bend
My attraction to you is dangerous
No it's not love, not yet at least
But I am quite territorial not officially mine
Yet we have nothing but raw material
So excuse me if the thought of someone else with you
Makes my thoughts a bit serial

Ayanna Curry Poem
I want to create a poem
That expresses how your'e thinking
One that patches up the holes
That has your mind sinking
One that mends those wounds,
You're scared of healing
One that arouses the mind,
Giving you the most euphoric feeling
One that waters your roots,
The ones needing nourishing
One that listens to your inner self
Stopping it from screaming
One that speaks to your lost self
Helping it through grieving
In whatever that might be in

Ayanna Curry Poem
I don’t like you as much as you like me
The wanting to be around every second
Falls foreign to me
I don’t like you as much as
I believe I could
At times you treat me good
Others, I feel completely misunderstood
You see for every bad he does
He tries a bunch of good
But that bad shines brighter than any good could
I do not like you as much
Because all of this was too soon
For it was the virtue of patience
That needed room
Patience for my soul
Needing a muse
That muse not being you
A muse that…
Pushes me over
That edge that I was terrified of going over…
With you
They alter my view
And you…
Wanted to grow in a dark room

Ayanna Curry Poem
Wanted dead or alive
No one told us that being black meant being dangerous
Or that killing us would end up being contagious
My color appears to be the target for your gunshot
My bad, I meant gunshots
But congrats you hit the spot
Advice given? Never call the cops...
Our skin? It’s a weapon you see.
Not that we wanted it to be
But somehow, we still end up dead in the streets
The crime of being black
The crime of just being me in this white society
Mental illnesses start to become a variety
You know, PTSD? Anxiety?
Targeted by the same people meant to protect me
Blood splattered
Dreams shattered
By ones who cry out “All Lives Matter”
Bullsh*t
Not when I’m being force fed a bullet
Some say that wounds heal with time but
Here we are still fighting for rights as if it were 1969
Crimes like this no longer reach the headlines
Kids like Tamir Rice, 12, won’t ever be able to shine
Stephanie Washington, 22
Shot, unarmed, thank you
Or how about Michael Elam
Gunned down at 17
“Had a gun and ready to fire”,
Or so it seemed
We just want to be able to breathe
To be alive with no worries of another surprise
We don’t wanna just survive
We don’t wanna just get by
We wanna thrive
Killing teens, killing dreams
When we say we want to make it big
This isn’t what we mean
But it appears that dead bodies become more important than living ones
All 1,164 of them

Ayanna Curry Poem
My fury for you is more than reasonable
I believe I’m healed until the seasons start to change
To the holidays
It creeps on, then suffocates me
Gasping for air yet again
Trying to catch myself before the walls cave in
To you, I was your play thing
Porcelain
A beauty with eyes grown cold
Your claws tainting my youthful soul
My beautiful skin
Dressed to your wishes
