Time flies

‘Twas just yesterday I learned about joy.
You became mine and I became yours –
so happy for a girl instead of boy.
An instant love bonded us to the core.

Seconds, hours, days and years quickly fly.
Crawling and talking, walking and running –
you grew so fast, past hijinks and lies,
into someone so smart and stunning.

Time continues to pass so fast for me.
You became an adult and now mother.
You turned me into a bragging Nonni
with a perfect princess now to nurture.

I watch with amazement; the years go by.
Holding memories, I can only try.

agony

a shriek,
a high-pitched scream echoed against the walls,
lightning flashed,
thunder rumbled deep and hard into my chest.
 pain,
	tightness,
		ache,
			sorrow.
it cannot be real, this is not happening, I cannot believe it.
to never again see,
talk,
hug,
love on,
		joke,
dance.
our son was –
our only boy was –
our eldest child was –
our headache was –
our heart was –
our angel is –
forever 26.

Made of you

I am made by the traits you gave to me –
Creating a person happy to know.
Independence and strength and loyalty,
Come from my mother who did truly show

There is importance to education,
And you made sure to provide me the best.
Creating in me a strong foundation
And for that I will be forever blessed.

You taught me how to be caring and bold,
As well as how to be a good mother.
Unconditional love never gets old –
Even my siblings support each other.

And so I watch these traits in my children,
and in their babes, again it is written.

puzzle

over a thousand pieces
to complete my puzzle
a picture of me, my heart
piecing it together my whole life
fitting in a new piece
filling in the frame
never quite complete
       pieces break off
       pieces fall away
leaving holes where others should be
       pieces are lost
       pieces are found
it will never truly be complete
on the day I lost you
the largest piece vanished
leaving my puzzle broken forever

I heard a song

I thought of you today when I heard a song –
A pop star using “ima” like you used to do.
The memories flooding my mind were strong,

Despite it all I put on a smile and sang along.
Reminders of correcting your English for you.
I thought of you today when I heard a song.

A rap star’s lyrics that are never wrong.
Words so perfect they will see me through.
The memories flooding my mind were strong.

A diva’s voice helps put you where you belong
Forever young wearing your halo in skies so blue
I thought of you today when I heard a song.

A song about a love lasting many years long.
For a thousand years I will love you.
The memories flooding my mind were strong.

Too many songs about losing someone so young.
Too many songs that are perfect and true.
I thought of you today when I heard a song.
The memories flooding my mind were strong.
