ADHD Believe in its brilliance

No I won’t be afraid to speak my mind.
I’ll speak it with empathy though, I promise to keep it kind.
No I won’t be contained by negative thinking.
Not anymore.
All of those thoughts are to be mopped up off the floor.
No, thats not me,
I am persistent,
consistent,
resistant,
a brilliantly bonkers personal assistant.
On the outside I am anyway.
Complete colour.
No grey.
I have ADHD
And I was born this way,
and now i know why.
So now I am free
Free to be non-linear,
Spontaneous.
Free to be me.
No I can’t remember that phone number,
and people do wonder about what they see.
Let them,
let them be.
They are them.
This is me.
I can see patterns
and sense if something is off amongst the chaos
My mind is broad,
I see more,
notice more.
Yes,
That is my wardrobe
on the floor.

But do I want to change me?
Once upon a time. Maybe.
Why don’t I ‘adult’ the same?
Why can’t I remember people's names?
But now I know why.
So no, I don't want to change a thing.
I am comfortable, compassionate and confident enough now to sing.
I look forward to what amazing ideas the next day will bring.

I work in ways
with immeasurable amounts of willingness,
simply to help others.
Can you hear me?
My language is deep,
as i said, always with empathy.
No I don’t tick all the ‘typical’ boxes.
But this is me.
I wake up knowing I am kind,
I am brave,
I have ADHD.

Tree of creativity

It’s there, you really need to see,
your beautiful tree,
of creativity.
With nature you know,
nothing is perfect.
We all grow in our own crazy direction.
We are tall, strong,
 with deep connections
Branches may bend in slightly weird ways
But we are grounded, the world around us looks astounded.
Your roots are deep in the soil
but you reach oh so high,
your tree of creativity, touches the sky
Every tree is individual.
You bloom with passions and principles
You really need to see,
your tree,
wild and completely free.
Spread out beautifully with your ADHD.
It takes courage to express that brilliant creativity.

Curiosity is also in your roots
and hey,
remember the trees that grow slow,
bear the best fruit.
Grow at your own pace and be proud,
Don’t ever be nervous about being loud.
Trees take forever to grow up,
so sod anyone who is being boring or abrupt
This is your pace, your time, and when ready,
you shine.
Always remember your roots,
let leaves go, the people that weigh you down.
Don’t take on too much water, you wouldn’t want to drown.
Some people only stay for a season remember
Your tribe, who you need,
will be the branches with you forever

And if you ever doubt you’ll see the sunshine
Remember creativity takes courage, you’ll be just fine.

ADHD - Don't trip up over something that's behind you

It must’ve been a season,
not your full story.
But every season builds our endurance,
another step towards the glory.
It has helped you realise,
you need time to heal.
Sometimes we do really need to sit,
just sit and feel.
Pick up the pain, don’t focus on the lost time.
Its all a part of the plan,
you’re going to be just fine.
You did put out your whole heart,
its what we do,
we open the book,
full, honest words,
 and truth.
But now,
don’t trip over something thats behind you
Trust and believe you a still taking steps up
Remind yourself you are a half full cup
Full of faith, ideas, hopes and dreams
Without realising,
one day the season will have passed
and you’ll see that sun beam
Unfortunately sometimes,
someone is not who they seem
Don’t trip. don’t let it slip, or grip.
It’s behind you.
You grow through what you go through.

ADHD - We can do hard things

We can do hard things

Yes we can, we can be the better man,
or woman.
If that seat looks uncomfortable,
bring a cushion.
We do not walk alone,
our world is not so dark
We all have our superpowers
and our individual spark,
We shine and make our mark.
And it shouldn’t feel scary,
we need to embrace the journey.
Jump into joy,
express imagination and energy.
The enthusiasm we bring,
the willingness to try new things,
we are blessed,
we really should sing
Now imagine the chaos that choir would bring.
Yes ok, sometimes we do forget that important thing.
We might become insecure sometimes and cling,
Also we are masters of how to wing,
difficult situations.
But our courage,
now that could shake a nation.
Flourishing, hyperfocused, accomplishing great things.
Shut the door on the paranoia,
take a breath, rest,
let it go.
Because I promise you.
We can do hard things you know

ADHD - Our rainbow

The red in us is our fierce, tenacious high energy
Passion like a fire,
a real warmth to our personality
The green is the spring in our step
and our coolest composure under pressure
We are remarkable at holding it all together.
The yellow is our brightness, our endless ideas that shine
The blue is the natural flow of our imaginations,
those rivers and rivers of design
Our ideas flow deep into the night,
like the greatest depths of space
We are a walking, talking,
delicate dazzling human database.
The orange is our optimism,
and our authenticity.
Orange is also our emotional endurance,
during the tough times we go through.
Orange, is a big part of you.
The enthusiastic adventurer,
 orange is the open-minded
risk-taking, sweet desire
of seeing and trying all new things.
Orange is the warmth in our wings.
The purple is the sublime superpowers we hold,
Purple is our strength,
mixed up with just a smidge of sarcasm
Purple is that mysterious side of our mind,
that a neurotypical might struggle a bit to find.
The black is the struggles we endure,
that we mask well and hide
But despite our darkest anxieties,
we remain to hold our arms out wide
Black is our protection of others,
Our friends,
Our mothers,
Our brothers.
What risk wouldn’t we take for one another?
It also represents our rocky rebellious stage
Hopefully, just hopefully, that was just a phase
Not thinking, possibly drinking.
We will always try, sometimes we’ll cry,
but we get back up, and we guide.
We definitely don’t divide
We are that rainbow,
glimmering through downpours of rain
So when you next feel pain, strain, or to blame
Remember how remarkable
And beautiful
it is to have your brain
