Alladin By James Russell Lowell

when i was a beggarly boy and lived in a cellar damp,
i had not a friend nor toy, but i had aladin's lamp.

when i could not sleep for cold, i had fire enough in my brain
and builded with roofs of gold, my beautiful castles in spain.

since then i have toiled day and night, i have money and power good store
but i'd give all my lamps of silver bright, for the one that is mine no more.

take fortune, whatever you choose, you gave and may snatch again,
i have nothing t'would pain me to lose, for i own no more castles in spain.

I feel that he is talking about youth. carmine

Living

to walk a tightrope, to engineer a train, to walk into a lions cage, to freefall from a plane
to ride the cyclone in coney island, to ride the bumper cars in rockaway park
to ride a ferris wheel at a carnival, to ride the carousel in central park
to captain a tugboat, to work in compressed air
to sail a boat around the world, to race a horse at a fair

to capture a moment with a loved one, to enjoy sex with the person of your dreams
to act out your wildest erotic thoughts, to skinny dip in a cold stream
to play poker for stakes you cannot afford, to hoist a few with friends

to do anything you love to do, that's living. The rest is waiting

Love

A woman I met in a very sad way was lamenting her role as a wife
Her man had left, she took up with another and when she chose love she chose life
Another young woman I have known, choosing a man was her goal in life
Soon she will catch her prized man and thru their love will have found life

A man I met had this to say. he was full of stress and strife
A person can gain wealth and power but when you have lost love love you have lost life

Memories

Your kindness gave me memories that will always stay with me
The joy we shared, because of you, will live through eternity

Your unselfish ways, thoughts and deeds, your giving in every way
Have made me happy to be your friend with the memories stored away

WHEN I WENT WITH YOU, MY SENSES REELED TO HEIGHTS THAT WERE UNKNOWN
AND THINKING OF YOU, THE FEELINGS RETURN AND I AM NOT ALONE

Shadows

the shadows are memories which haunt me, they make me a slave to the past
only time can erase this mental pain and set me free to love at last
the shadows are good and bad times in love that happened not too long ago
while i am a slave to the shadows, my lover has started on a new love to know

the shadows grow in the moonlight and fade away in the sun
my nightlife is full of memories, my days are empty--until I become one.

God

My God is very simple, He is a friend of mine
He talks to me, He comforts me, He is always at my side

My God is only goodness, He will only smile on me
No sorrows pass between us, the joys of life He shares with me

And what do I do to deserve this God, what is the secret for having this friend
"to just love your fellow man" is His message, and we shall always walk hand in hand.

Rose

A beautiful rose stood by a wall, it's flower for everyone to see
It's scent was smelled by one and all, and then it was gone, the petals fall.
