At the Beginning

They glare at me
with piercing eyes.
They talk about me
with nothing but lies.

Why such savagery
while longing for equality?
Why such ferocity
while teaching humanity?

At first, I cried
and did nothing but sigh.
This is the life
I longed for overtime.

And so each day
I tried and strived.
With misjudged essay
I'm glad I survived.
