Facing Reality

Recovery can be the biggest blessing you ever receive
Yet at the same time also being the highest mountain you have ever had to climb
One minute the adrenaline is pumping
Then the very next your finding yourself trapped within your or thoughts
Stuck facing reality without a clear set of directions
Realizing that there is no map to guide you
Understanding it looks different for everyone
Knowing for some, it may be complete smooth sailing
While also knowing that for others, it may also be like trying to stay dry in a monsoon with a faulty umbrella
For the first time having to see that it’s OK to not be perfect
Seeing your reflection in the mirror
A totally different person than you’re used to
One who is facing reality head on with pride
No longer hiding in the shadows, afraid of what others may think
Instead being genuinely yourself with no apologies or lies to hide the truth

Anxiety in Sobriety

Feeling so alone in a crowded room
Missing your friends while finally seeing who your true friends are
Wanting to get out and go have fun
But realizing your old ideas of fun only ever landed you in trouble
Starting to see what everyone else was seeing all along
Ashamed of who you were before
Knowing you never would have gotten where you are now without being that person
Conflicted by your own thoughts and emotions
Feelings start rushing back that you had blocked out
Your heart starts pounding as if it will burst out of your chest
Unsure of how to survive your new journey through sobriety
Keeping your inner circle small
Reaching out to everyone on your list
Expressing your anxiety
Explaining every little trigger
Praying they will understand
They tell you to breath it’s ok to not be ok
