Brennan Whaley Poem
At least I’m not alone
At least I have friends by my side
But what do we do
When the silence is the kind shared when somebody has died
I hear celebrations
I read the words of people I can only assume have no love in their lives
and though nobody has truly died
A loss is being experienced
For it hurts
When you realize the country you love
Doesn’t love you back
They call it the land of the free
But I guess those freedoms shouldn’t apply to people like me
And so I process this loss
Yet I sit and just feel numb
Because I should’ve seen this coming
Because hope is for the dumb
