ONE DAY

One day joy herein will not be found
Your sound mind will become unsound
Your friends will no longer be around
Your body weak will long for the ground

One day the beauty you admire will fade
And the ugliness you dislike will pervade
Your rich mansions the poor will invade
Your glowing skin will be for the mortician's pomade

One day the eyes that long to see shall close
The hands that long to acquire will lose
The legs that long to walk will repose
The body that is always fresh will decompose

One day my name will be added the title "late"
The life I enjoy will push me out of its gate
My powerful self will helplessly lie in state
My powerful name will be on the cemetery's slate

One day from my position I will be put away
Another in that position would be meant to stay
As mighty as I am I will laid in the dirtiest clay
As handsome as I am I will be made to decay

One day even my grave will be wiped out
For time carries no one about
On my grave grasses and weeds will sprout
On it birds and animals will gather to shout

No man is completely fit

NO MAN IS COMPLETELY FIT
( Onyenekperechi )

No man is completely fit
Strong enough to exist without exit
Often we sit close to the deep pit
Falling low at the slightest hit

The healthy man does not push death away
Likewise the sick man does not make it stay
Death looks for all made of clay
Bringing them to lowliness with their decay

The young is old enough to die
To lie in state is a position anyone can vie
That I will die is a truth I can't turn to a lie
Death is a belt that I must tie

The next second is uncertain
Can turn gain into pain
Can deprive a ship of its captain
Can take away that which you cannot regain

Waste no time in doing the good
The standing tree will soon become wood
The handsome man is already termites' food
The living man running out of blood
