Almost Sober

Drink kept by the bedside would not rot,
Critical of the routine, banging on the door,
Demanding a day in all the light-wide awake,
Embracing the axe and work around the woods,
Cut in half- building from the bitter bark,
Pain makes the body succumb to it often,
Making way for alcohol to ease it,
Surrounded, should the shrubs shush it?
Holding the remedy for a man idle as window pane,
Brimming with rum full to the neck.

Beating to it the shallow fried freshly caught tuna,
Play wanting no rest to let him redeem,
Past the river’s vigor and platonic valley,
No friends waited for the man with the axe,
Seeking his company or a word to share,
Peg by peg as the bitter liquid submerged his body,
Within lied the periphery of the garden,
Woods in the vicinity that he would sink in,
Own company made him drown or swim,
Gathering the chunks of wood by himself,
Lit them on fire with the wind starting to pick,
Sold the rest of the bundles in a market nearby,
Bought whiskey that kept him warm on a cold night.

Decay

Trembling hands succumb to the pain,
A mushy exhibition of veins seeping through.

Nerves pricking the insides of the brain,
Never known a condition like it to be true.

Probably a bottleneck to my work,
Worms tangling around in the vicinity,
Decay was the order and the perk,
To surrender the life dismal to the core,
Soul giving up the breath early,
Living that yearned for more.

Routine mocking need behind the bush,
A garden full of jasmines,
Caged inside, unable to push,
Strength unable to endure,
Tenacity leaking from the depths,
Bit by bit, piece by piece,
Agreed upon the fate,
Held back to be suppressed.

Lived just to have a gaze,
Of the chirp of the birds,
Of wings fluttering to take the leap,
Faith crushed by reality,
Nature that killed the weak,
Underneath the shell,
Kept me quiet the agony,
Failures of my own,
Gathering to see me fright.

Trembling hands succumbed in vain,
The mushy exhibition turned bloody.

Nerves rested, so did the brain,
Decay left the corpse muddy!

River

Meandering through my closet,
And the shelves kept around it,
Keeping its flow intact,
Bruising the wooden path,
Following me with force.

After dark looking for solace,
Unwinding-resting on my head,
Puddle engulfing me through,
Gushing sounds throbbing,
Cutting through me- under and over.

Flooding consequences -they weren’t,
Nor fresh water from a nearby well,
Nightmarish existence choking me,
It was my doing- tearful presence,
A subdued prey and the predator-
Bit by bit rotting the whole!

Light

Glistening night began the fall,
Of dreams and joy, he would often call,
Hopes residing on his shoulders appal,
Dark inhaling the being, exhaling it all.

Where would it end?
Masking it, anonymously penned,
Giving in to the existing trend,
Stuck in a marsh knowing no friend.

Eyesight going weak, in all bleakness,
Feet moving barely, in a guess,
Millimeters from a mourning press,
Light may come, and caress.

Naturally

Subtly significant for the cause,
Ripped apart by men,
Revering the reign of the lord,
Fools caught up in the act,
Making change prosper,
Or an effort toward it the least.

What failed was agony,
Disbelief of fauna and flora,
Once brimmed with confidence,
Flooding of the bloodsucking leech,
Man yelled at the being.

Tree hanging by the ridge,
Suffocated by newly fought freedom,
Of façade of expression and growth,
Ambition not mindful of the process,
Species that curated the being,
Progressed sipping some tea.

Fight in the open on land,
Now had turned it barren and sore,
Existence had to be revered,
It was in the past,
Not now with opening of new doors.

For salvation we may pray to him,
Or maybe give life to new,
Where little is done for being,
Even human won’t survive calamity,
Surrender to seizure of nature,
Living with a lie,
Brain put to a good use,
Man claimed!

Mundane living

Simmer the sunshine,
Cause it hurts my eye,
So does the mundanity,
Holding on - gripping it,
As to waist does a belt.

Free to roam the streets,
Dark and lively,
Rain smothering the pain,
Dogs bark-an omen,
Living for the night,
Rather filled with laughs,
Mugs of beer getting me.

Soon have to catch a train,
And return to the mundanity,
Hoping I’ll live for the night, again!
