Ayodele Akitola Poem
Hands clasped, eyes closed
Future’s dim, stories untold
Awaiting the ember flame
brimming with toiling shame
Pleading for a broken retribution
Grasping for my long, lost salvation
What have I done?
Where have I gone?
I’ve lost my way under the guiding sun
Blemished sins that I hadn’t shun
Once more basking in this credence of light
Hoping that I don’t get lost again in the recurring night
Forgive me Father, for I have sinned
Allow me to rest in my contempt so grim
Rid me of this ill-fated friend I call my mind
Help me gather my thoughts of the sublime.
Else, I shall wrap myself in the absolute
Hoping to escape my share of death’s loot.

Ayodele Akitola Poem
As I lay in wait
My heart aches
For the love that I have lost
For the love that I must find
For I shall have no love left to give
If I do not find,
the love that I let slip-
Far far away,
On the other side
Where it surely is not greener
Why have I,
Let a piece of my love die?
Under the almond tree,
where secrets were shared
And words were coerced from my lips
now pursed in bitterness,
Left there by the love
That I must find
Who shall I give this lost love to?
once it is not returned to its owner
Who shall now bear the responsibility
of a Lover's keeper
I will not let another piece die
Else, surely, I will too.
