Emma Doubt Poem
To me ,
Loving you was like
That one warm august day
The one forever imprinted in your brain.
When your parents finally
Let you chase down the ice cream truck
The 5 dollar bill burning in your pocket
Impatiently waiting to choose which flavour you want
After weeks and weeks of hearing it’s songs
Only to be told you’ve had enough treats
Watching all the other kids
Sticky sherbet and chocolate dripping from their mouths
Barely taking breathes between each lick
Unable to fully beat the summer heat
But they didn’t care
Oh
how I wish it was me
I would give anything to taste the frozen treat
I craved the piercing ice on my tongue
To feel it melt within my mouth as my throat made it liquify
My body’s internal temperature evaporating all it used to be
Flowing thru my body like a river
Feeling it in all my tissues and cells
Every part of me
All summer long
I sat there wishing it could be me
Wondering what it would be like
dreaming so desperately
Then the second last day of summer
I heard the familiar jingles driving by
Only to turn around to my mother
Emptying her wallet out
Finally it was my turn
I got to satisfy my craving
I got to feel you flood my body like a river
Even if it were only once
You’ll always be my august day
The sweet childhood memories I cherish so deep

Emma Doubt Poem
To me-
Loving you was like
That one warm august day;
The one forever imprinted in your brain.
When your parents finally;
Let you chase down the ice cream truck-
The 5 dollar bill burning in your pocket;
Impatiently waiting to choose which flavour you want.
After weeks and weeks of hearing it’s songs-
Only to be told you’ve had enough treats.
Watching all the other kids;
Sticky sherbet and chocolate dripping from their mouths,
Barely taking breathes between each lick.
Unable to fully beat the summer heat-
But they didn’t care.
Oh;
how I wish it was me-
I would give anything to taste the frozen treat.
I craved the piercing ice on my tongue
To feel it melt within my mouth as my throat made it liquify
My body’s internal temperature evaporating all it used to be
