Lily Dam Poem
my coat of yesterday hangs by the hook
holding onto every teardrop
dripping
down
the
sleeves,
mascara stained from my eyes.
blurry puddles decorate my vision,
rain dancing on the ground.
the sun settles by the coast,
waiting for the gray to pass
to bring in my spring.

Lily Dam Poem
i sit in my car,
idling with the burning engine.
my radio only plays your voice,
my rearview mirror only shows your car.
handprints plastered around the seat, the doors;
a part of you lingers,
except for the part i want.
headlights glow alone on the road,
circling around your neighborhood,
trying to pretend
i'm still looking for your house.

Lily Dam Poem
i stand by the toaster
waiting for your other half to come up
i'll set your slice and half melted butter down
and hope that today you'll eat it
morning drags on with no one else there
the buzzing tv show you'd always watch falls silent now
hands dipped in flour wiping away your sniffles
i wish i could still find some sitting by the sink
every morning i repeat
toasting, waiting
watching, waiting
cooking, waiting
every night i close my eyes knowing
i'm forgetting one more piece of you today
and whoever you were yesterday isn't who i remember you as today
your laughter is a little quieter
your smile a little blurred around the edges
i forget your little fidgeting at the table
and how many times you told me you loved me
i still remember our routine though
at least i have that, right?
i'll just wait until you sit down at the table
make a face at me and repeat your line all over
"you burnt it again"

Lily Dam Poem
touching hands with you
raising my arm to meet your fingertips and smile at the soft tingle
bitter berries sit on the edge of the window
fog pulling us closer together
i hope you remember me forever
even if forever isn't long enough for us

Lily Dam Poem
if tomorrow gives me
a cup of tea laced with forget-me-nots,
i wonder if my dream will come true.
today is just another weight of yesterday,
disguised in the blurred spaces of
your words kissing the air that once touched my skin
crying salt tears of your absence.
yesterday is another reminder of my
icarus fairytale sliding down clouds to
rest forever at sea
levels always rising, waiting for the day i remember my
forget-me-not
