April 15

Awake in the morning,
It’s the beginning of the end,
Stretching and yawning,
Remembering when,
I found out the truth,
And you could no longer defend,
You knew it was over,
You could no longer pretend,
I never knew I wouldn’t see you again.

Ocean blue eyes,
Staring into mine,
Sparkling like sapphires,
As blue as the sky,
You’re laid with me,
Up on your side,
I’m lost in you,
But I’m not hard to find.

Wreaking havoc like a tornado,
That comes raging in,
So much destruction,
And gone with the wind,
Were you the same way with me,
As you are with him?

I don’t wanna know, I just wanna hide,
I’m screaming out loud,
But it’s all stuck inside,
I know that they mean well,
And they don’t want to pry,
But please don’t ask if I’m ok,
Because I’ll just start to cry.

I would’ve crawled to the ends of the Earth for you,
Just to hear you say my name,
Now I’d crawl through broken glass,
To rid me of this pain.

Let’s get in the car,
And go on a long drive,
Let’s talk about what we’d call our kids,
And how we’d live our life,
Let’s talk about how much fun we’d had,
And how you were my wife.

We didn’t get that far because you drove us off a cliff,
You took the wheel right out my hands,
Saying you’d had enough of this.

I look at you as we plummet to the sea,
Even as we’re about to die,
You can’t bare to look at me,
(Let’s not get ahead of ourselves),
This is all speaking hypothetically,
But you might as well have killed me,
When I found out the truth,
On April fifteenth.

Waves

Grief is the wave that rocks the boats in the bay,
It comes, it goes, sometimes it stays,
It can lap at your feet or drag you under,
It can come without warning, or with a clap of thunder,
It is the wind in your hair,
The chill of the night,
It is the arms you wrap around yourself when you hold on too tight,
It is darkness and pain with fragments of light,
It is the hole in your heart that can never be filled,
It is the blood in your ears that cannot be stilled,
It is all consuming; it swallows you up,
It is the yearning because you miss them so much,
It is the price you pay,
It is love.
Grief is many things, all rolled into one,
It is the feeling of sadness because they are gone,
It is guilt for all the things you did wrong,
It is the bargaining, and the depression,
It’s wishing you said all the things you didn’t care to mention,
It is ugly, it is rough,
It is way more than tough,
Grief is like a wave that rocks the boats in the bay,
It comes and it goes, but it’s not here to stay.

Social Media

Constantly seeking out validation,
You don’t have to know me,
But I wanna be your favourite.
I want you to like me so much, I hate it.
Share posts or tap to follow,
Get blocked and deleted, such a hard pill to swallow,
The lives are so full but inside they are hollow,
Love it and like it and give it a mention,
Can’t stand social media but love the attention!!!
Fakes, liars, people who cheat,
This holiday, that holiday and Turkey white teeth.
Ooh look at my kid, are they just the best?
Na mate, can’t ya just sit down and give it a rest?
Look at us. Aren’t we happy?
Plastering on smiles whilst changing the nappies,
Decked out in fresh designer clothes,
Whether they’re real or not you don’t have to know,
It’s never real it’s all just for show,
Mortgages and bills,
Never ending queues at the supermarket tills,
And when petrol prices go down we all get a thrill,
Get a TikTok on,
Think of the likes,
Scrolling through profiles of people you despise,
Cursing yourself and your sad little life,
Getting so frustrated you can’t help but cry,
Laid on the seatee wanting to die,
Can’t help but think “I want that to be mine”,
Whilst wanting nothing to do with it at the same time,
“Have you seen this on Facebook?”
“No I don’t go on it much.”
“But there’s a whole world you can access with your eyes or a touch”
Phone in hand and foot on clutch,
Send a Snapchat whilst driving cos they miss it so much,
Yet here we are again,
They blank you in person but online you are a friends,
And your ex has changed their profile picture again,
Hours of scrolling,
When does it end?
