Lucy

My feline’s eyes reflect her ginger hues.
She follows my man everywhere she can.
Her tracking sight chases away the blues.
But when squirrels discovered her, they ran.

She travels with us, a definite plus.
She likes to go fast, so step on the gas.
She ignores all limits. Yes, cats can cuss!
She likes to fish, quietly, wait for bass.

A middle-aged cat can still be a brat.
She gnaws on my cord like something abhorred.
But a yell from the man cancels all that.
With an innocent look, she drops the cord.

A cat in the house trumps any old mouse.
All her checks done, she’s asleep on my blouse.

A Different Season

days of fasting overlap
prayers offered to fill a gap
in lives surrounded by a wrap
of tradition and modern seditions

today, Lent and Ramadan bring
times of reflection and for some, to sing
folks set aside the mundane, for a better thing
to live special days, mingled with cherished conditions

like ships passing in the night
sojourners waiting for the morning light
take time to reflect on another’s might
seeking the Divine with community renditions

Mind Sets

Scarcely had dawn lit the town…
Nighties hugged tight around…
Onlookers at an overnight transformation…
Winter wonderland’s aspiration!

People light the fire and consider…
Let others go outside and take risks.
Only those truly dedicated few
Understand and act on loving neighbours, through
Getting everything prepared as they go…
Heavy clothing to protect from snow, they
Shovel roadways with their ploughs…

A Pilgrim's Pamphlet

Always prepare for the unexpected!

Just as you want your child to finish school
Outline what you want to accomplish too.
Understand there will be many obstacles.
Rocks can mar the best planned roads.
Next, commit to be kind to yourself.
Every single day brings enough challenges.
Your attitude may become one of your best assets.

Overcome fears by
Forging right through them

Again, remember you are in this for the long haul.

Time and time again, challenges will pop up.
Hone your skills to welcome these interruptions.
Own your part in life’s pilgrimage.
Utilize disappointments in creative ways.
Stay strong when all around you is disintegrating
And you seem like the only one who remains stable.
Never let the naysayers win.
Dreams are to be held and accomplished with sacred resolve.

Mend relationships where you can.
Initiate the peace-making process.
Learn to listen empathically.
Each individual has a gift to offer you.
So gracefully accept what they give.

Be bold in your own heart.
Each tenet of your conviction holds purpose.
Guard the complete structure to form strong visions.
Instead of waffling you will grow more steadfast along the way.
No one is infallible. Be kind to yourself.
Saints have learned to safely tread precarious paths.

With all your strength remain steadfast to your Creator.
Instead of lamenting, practice giving thanks.
Truth has a way of wearing away the most stubborn lies.
Hold it tenderly in your heart and mind.

On those days when your feet ache and
No one seems willing to help you…
Enter into your private space and lay it before Abba Father.

Search your heart and soak your feet.
Thankfully reiterate where you are on your journey.
Each kindness and pain has its place…then
Praise God from whom all blessings flow…

Growing Wings

Hidden in the darkness
Bereft of light
Lost in the dungeons
Of endless fright

Their moods transform
Joy into night
Questions for strangers
Forgetting what’s right

Slow states enrich the stage
As a shard of light
Pierces the blackness
Making one spot bright

Step by step, dawn
Pulverizes night
Shattered rays call to
Metamorphose into light

Temporal butterflies emerge
Dried wings soar to an unknown height
Who would have thought
They had such might

Lone stranger watches as
His subjects gain sight
Mesmerized by escaped prisoners
Forever leaving the jail so tight

Joy rebounds and
The wondrous flight
Truth lost for ages
Announces what’s right

His dark photography captures
The ancient night
That records their journey
Into the bright light

Turning Points

Business trips hold unexpected traps.
Deception lurks with the lures
to see what lies within
the unwary travelers’ lapse.
He pays the price for current cures
while ignoring the true cost of sin.

Finished. He moves on. Returns home.
The respected family man…
Until the news reaches him…
She sinned. Her belly’s a dome.
In self-righteous anger, he does what he can.
He calls forth judgment – an act so grim.

She had waited so long for justice to come.
Her plan worked, but not quite…
She must have known when she went that day…
Had she evaluated each point and the sum?
Would she die to remove the family blight?
He examined the tokens offered in lieu of pay.

He could have denied her testimony,
and declared her evidence stolen.
held his ground before all in sight.
He could have damned her, if only…
Set-up. Targeted. Deceived. His emotions molten.
Locked gazes. He declared her right.

What did it cost him? What did others say?
just a businessman travelling from home.
just a lustful man, not wanting to be a laughingstock…
a powerful man who chose that day
to let truth, examine his life, and comb
through each aspect till he became a humble rock.
