A Soldier's Mother

No, she mustn't cry out loud,
Every pain she must but hold;
No tear must make its way from the sides,
Of her pained, grieving, red rimmed eyes.

Into the casket she can't help but stare,
At the boyish, chubby face so fair;
And wonder why she can't seem to hear,
The sweet voice she once held so dear.

It is but a matter of time, she says,
To every person who tries to close the case;
Lazy boy he's always been but he'll,
Get up from his sleep when he's had his fill.

What will it take to convince,
A loving, doting, caring mother since;
How could she who could still hear her child cry,
Help but think her very senses lie.

Oh, this cruel, cruel war,
Is like unlit fireworks in a jar;
To protect it from every spark that flies,
The soldier is who pays the price.

When is this atrocity to stop?
When will the terrorists but realize;
Greater good is though what they hoped to gain,
Their humanity is what they've mercilessly slain.

Maybe one day the ball of gold will shine,
Onto an earth once more pristine;
Where no mother will ever grieve for her lost child,
And at no border will heaps of bodies be piled.

My Father

Come on, he said, you've got it on your plate,
Stop clicking your pen and do concentrate;
It's just a small triangle twisted at an angle,
What's gotten your concepts in a muddy tangle?

Iam going on a tour, he said, on office business,
Dad, I want a barbie in a pink frilly dress!
But lo and behold, the suitcase overflowed,
With all our favorite things hidden in it's fold;

Dad, I grew tall, I said, do you want to see,
And I stood beside him, straightening out my knee;
Oh, you reached my pocket, it's just a matter of time!
Till you are tall as your mother, just a few months down the line;

All the little things, all the golden moments,
All the things I gained, my accomplishments;
Dad, you were the pillar, did I ever tell you that?
My wonderful father and the world's very best!

An Afternoon Wish

Baby blue sails flapping in the lazy breeze,
Cool, gentle waves lapping at my tanned knees;
Golden sand warm from the hot sun in the sky,
Oh, how I wish to just stop the time and lie!

Fluffy cotton clouds chasing the scorching sun,
Those white balls giving the yellow one a run;
In the grainy sand with dreams of cool lemonade and pie,
Oh, how I wish to just stop the time and lie!

A caw in the sky and a quack in the water,
An avian predator diving for slaughter;
Back soars the hunter with a victory cry,
Oh, how I wish to just stop the time and lie!

The tinkle of ice cream bells with the smell of spicy bhel,
The vendors preparing for the sundown to sell their ware;
For despite my efforts, the sun still comes down with a sigh,
Oh, how I wish to just stop the time and lie!
