In This Place

Work is the twin of rest;
Work represses me from tasting the sugar of the day,
Represses me from witnessing the launch of the moon,
Represses me from fun, from the chaff, wraps me in grief,
Even when my gait is breaking like the beak of a red-haired hen from the endless stress, & tears stroll the streets of my face,
work appears in the company of a rainstorm,
This is not because I like it,
but because the choice of freedom is a melting mirage,
because freedom is far like an endless sea,
What do you do when poverty blinds the love of your parents,
and push them to throw you an uncle's place,
a place work is the twin of rest?
I swear, workhouse chores, errands,... — lace me inside, scripts sadness into my skin even when my mates are in school,
But I won't wail in this feeling crawling into my lips,
I won't. I won't. I won't.

In This Green Land

In this green land,
We do not breathe Oxygen,
We breathe fear for we do not know
where and when the next bomb or shot
will fall,
In this green land,
We do not speak the language of love,
It's ethnic hatred that oozes from our mouths,
We hide like Chameleons,
for we do not know when ethnic differences will snatch a soul away,
We are not one, but we can be one,
We can allow peace to spread like a sea over a shore,
We can choose to speak the language of love and honour,

Consider the flowers before streams; they differ yet unified in beauty,
Consider the human body; it stands despite its parts and duties,
Consider the universe; it's vast,
varies in function yet together like ants,

Come, compatriot, come!
Come, gather the fragments of ethnic differences and knit them together,
Come, let's hold our coloured hands in unity
and replace this country's grief with Glory,
Come, let's purge corruption,
uproot colonialism's whip and harvest peace,
Come, let's uphold this flag and refuse the labours of our heroes past from being past,

Come, compatriots, come!
Come, let's green this green and whiten this white Come,
let's replace these wreaths of thorns,
with joy, for diversity isn't a road to disunity but unity in uniqueness.

Broken Lines

When I try to reach out,
The world becomes a morgue,
quiet, double ticks no reply,
All the lights go off,
I am an orphan in my father's house,
My heart carries loneliness,
I have three friends,
my shadow, my voice, and gloominess,
Knocked sideways by-
Life thorny kisses,
Turn my depression on-
Shred my dreams & fight demons in my sleep,
Sometimes my head carries too much weight,
Like the night lives in there,
A hive of broken bottles,
& help is nowhere near,
The world is a busy place,
When I go, no one would miss me.

Social-Hallucination

Tick tock,
No time for her son,
‘On Tiktok bleeping her cleavages to strange men,
Social media hallucination,
living a lie,
Here, everything is perfect,
The sky is blue, it never rains,
Everyone is rich & poverty is slang on the lips of black men,
Here, love is beautiful;
Till breakfast is served in court,
We lie too much,
Like politicians, our tongues are twisted,
Curled, tangled, braided in self-deceit,
Sometimes God doubts he created us,
We lie too much.

A Song of Gratitude

How would my lips roll out all the
gratitude growing wings in my mind?
How would I sprinkle all the affection
as lilies on your mild face, fair one?
For you... you, my baby boy,
are the breeze that warms my face whenever fear's fierce,
breath tries to sting me,
your fragrance alone,
flutter all the butterflies in my belly till my pores
shoot praises to the sky,
it's your windless waves
that dragged me from inferiority's cage & set me on
freedom's lane,
and when i run... when insecurity strengthens my legs,
i find myself in your embrace,
cuddling my braids and placing
my feet on freedom's lane,
Again,
This poem is to roll out a freckle,
of the gratitude growing wings in my mind.

Time and Nothingness

If you chased riches all your life,
& never became the richest,
abandoned the ones that loved you
For the things money can do for you,
Wrapped in wants, more, & shun gratitude,
When you die,
the earth will not miss you,
All your time was for yourself,
Seeking vanity and nothingness.

My Son

You cannot leave your life to chance,
Dancing to the tune of randomness,
& vanity;
the things that raise the hair on your skin,
You cannot live by bread alone,
And every word that proceeds from the media,
My son,
the world is a busy market,
Sieve the noise,
find the music,
Be the eagle’s eye, Find wisdom,
Learn the way of the ant,
the subtleness of a serpent,
& the gentility of a dove,
Be everything and anything,
Let your mind fly,
Fly my son, Fly.
