If Only I Told You More Often

If only I told you more often
How much I really cared
Maybe nothing would be forgotten
And all grief would’ve been spared

If only I told you more often
How much you really meant
We might still experience
A life lived to its full extent

If only I told you more often
How much I really needed
Your tender loving care
I might not feel abandoned
When life seems all but fair

If only I told you more often
How well we worked together
Perhaps I could still feel
Your fingers running through my hair

If only I told you more often
How much I liked to hear
You say those three words
That we all long to hear

If only I told you less
How much I disagree
Then maybe you’d still be here
Nestled up next to me

If only I told you more often
Or sometimes a little less
Then I might not be alone right now
And cry a little less

The Sun's Toil

"Rage, Rage against the dying of the light.", They say.

To the contrary,
all the Sun wants is
the cessation of the light.

It labors endlessly
bringing light to the world
so that we may flourish.

A thankless job,
with us too consumed by greed
to take a moment to ponder
the Sun's mighty effort.

With no breaks or relief
the Sun shines constantly,
bringing its holy rays
and providing bright days.

"Rage, rage against the dying of the light.", They say.

"Let me go.", pleads the Sun.

To use one word to describe
one so beautiful and wise
seems an impossible task,
but why not try.

Gorgeous? Delicate? Ethereal?
No, they sound too focused on the physical.
Bright? Witty? Smart?
But then you lose the art.

No matter the effort.
No matter the might.
To reduce to one word
your celestial light
is too big a job for me
and my ability to fight.

So for now you'll go unlabeled.
Unable to be confined
to a box that would bind
your body and mind.

The Moon's Sorrow

Pity the Moon!
As it survives only
by the thing it envies.

Pity the Moon!
As it waxes and wanes
merely reflecting the Sun's divine rays.

Pity the Moon!
As it lies in shame
bringing darkness wherever it goes.

Pity the Moon!
As it sees the world during its slumber
fulfilling its duty in the shadows.

Pity the Moon!
As it writhes in pain
longing to be the bringer of light.
