An Ode to a Christmas Light

Oh, to be a broken Christmas light
Surrounded by the glitter burning bright,
While dampened by the blanket of the broke.
People look and think you are a joke.

You are alone, surrounded by the life
Of your friends, yet you are here in strife.
You try your best to glow, but you are done.
You sputter, spluck, and suck out all the fun.

They see you glow, just barely being bright,
While all your friends illuminate the night.
They take you out and throw you in the trash.
I see you there, alone among the ash.

The single, sad, and solemn Christmas light.
Left to die, because it wasn't right.
Your little glow was good enough for me.
It made my life a little brighter, see.

Go and Live

Y'all
I am just so d#mn happy to be alive

Trees are green!
The ground smells earthy and warm!
Music exists and it's amazing!

My stomach is full of spaghetti
And I bounced on a trampoline today!

I cannot fully express
Just how much
I have fallen in love with life

To Yearn Is To Suffer, One Way Or Another

I want so many things
I want to be kissed on the cheek
I want to be told
"Your hair looks so soft!
Can I feel it?"
I want to be hugged
As though I could slip away at any second
I want so many mundane things

But of course
I could never say any of that
To do so would be to break social standing
And status quo

So instead
I spout it off to the internet
Online
Or in a journal
Where faceless beings
Or future historians
Might read it and feel
The mortifying horror of asking
All of us agreeing
To pretend we don't want it too

Love Songs On a Bike, In the Cold, and At Night

I was listening to some songs of love
On my way home from work
It was dark
And cold
I just had my little phone flashlight
No coat
And about two miles of hills ahead of me

And it turns out
When you ride your bike
In the cold
With songs of love
And at night
They turn into songs of tragedy
With about two miles ahead of you

But then I looked up at the sky
And I saw the stars
And I remembered
That it was okay, actually
And that I had chosen this

So unless you can look up and see the stars
Don't go riding at night
In the cold
Listening to songs of love
With about two miles ahead of you

I'm the Problem

It's not like I can tell you I love you
How would I even say it?
Those three words?
They don't mean anything anymore
We've all heard them so many times (in some way or another), that it's practically an old cliché
As true as it might be, we'll never imbibe the meaning
Not as long as poets like me exist
We have ruined the impact

Covers

I want to spend my life under the covers
They drape over me
And live up to their name

There are monsters out there that are out to get me
As soon as I take these covers off
So I try to bring them with me
With a sweatshirt
Or a blanket
Once I leaned over in a shirt
But it is never the same

Until I excise these demons on my chest
I'm under the covers
I stay

No one will see

Fight For Freedom

Burning, broken bridges
are fixed when fighters faint.
Learners lothe their limits,
but painters pick their paint.

Builders break their backbones
so we can wonder and wait,
but city skyline sights
ramp a ridiculous rate.

Waiting wasn't working,
so someone sings a song.
It hurts the hearts of heroes
and those what wanted wrong.

We win this war together;
on devils, don't depend.
No one here knows nothing.
Fight with us 'til the end.

The Green Glass Door

The world is on fire
There's a man with a bucket we put on the floor
We scream at him to Do something!
While locked behind a green glass door

Second Place

There it is
That feeling again
The feeling that
I'll never be one of you
And that
No matter how hard I try
There's something separating us
And I am again
Second place
