Fob Echo, Diwaniya Iraq February 2006

FOB Echo Iraq was a forward operation base near the Babylon site in the city of Diwaniya, in fact the US military put security hesco and fencing around the ruins for protection from all of the goons in the region. This was a hot base and the hajis would lob at least 3 salvos of mortar on us each day. February 06 i was walking from my CHU to the DFAC for lunch and i heard a rocket scream over head at low altitude, sounded like a high performance jet, about the most startling sound I've ever heard.. a hot second later the KBR laundry facility went up in an incredibly loud boom, a huge ball of fire, smoke, dust and debris ...... was the first to the entrance, the place was in flames and lying about 20 feet in the inside the door was the body of this cute girl wearing a blue KBR t shirt, she was folded in half.. i don't believe or at least i tell myself she didn't suffer or felt stress. i still see her face, just a cute girl, kind of mulatto, pretty, just trying to make a living and support her family back in the islands. Shortly after the US brought in Strikers and they raged havoc on the area for several weeks. That was and remained a hot base. Never so glad when i was on Cat Fish Air out of that hole... occasionally like last night, she comes to visit me in my dreams

The Robyn Williams Encounter

Early 90s a friend of mine was some kind of Teamster working on the Sony Studios lot in Culver City. I was in town visiting and invited out one day to the set of some stupid show but I met William Devane and he was cool. So, Sony was shooting the treehouse set for the movie Hook on a stage near by. It was a secured set bc the studio didn't want photos getting out but my buddy knew a guy that snuck us both in. We were in the wings checking out this thing and noticed a group of Japanese executives taking a tour, stereotypical looking, black suits, thin black ties but NO CAMERAS. After a just few moments it became apparent that Robyn was on set and he had gathered together some crew members armed with poles, brooms, a boom mic and we watched him march these guys in front of the Sony execs while all whistling the theme to The Bride on the River Kwai. It was eyewatering hilarious but the 3 of us held it together until we got out of there. True story

War Dogs of Bagram Airfield Afghanistan

Bagram airfield the Ugandans handled the bomb dogs.. heading back to my CHU after a mission i would see them for their morning walks.. one dog famously wore motorcycle goggles, story is he took a blast of rocks in the face and survived but was partially blinded.. apparently his sniffer still worked and he could see well enough to do his job.. cool doggy

There were 40,000 people on that base and most armed to the teeth. several thousand were local nationals. Trucks in and out all day.. those dogs were a necessity, god love em. i played with them as often as i could. The Ugandan dudes were cool as f' ...

Pink Reflections of Bagram Afghanistan

Between Iraq OEF and Afghanistan ISAF I did about 120 months OCONUS..
A peculiarity about Bagram Airfield which housed about 40,000 people, mostly US enlisted soldiers from all 5 groups and the off shoots.. Well, obviously there were a bunch of horny kids with high testosterone on both sides of the fence and sleazy third country nationals .. It was no secret that some of the fat s.kanks from the US Army were there to make a buck.. Most US enlisted person in uniform had to wear a reflector belt at all times, pigs that were selling it wore 'pink belts'... no one else would be caught dead.. These ' women ' made a pile of money.. From what i heard, $150 USD per throw.. these skanks, and there were hundreds, easily raked in five times there take home per day, minimum.. frankly i cant the blame them... good lord they were hideous..

Suffer the Childrenz

seggs trafficking is only ' a thing ' when its western world, not southwest asia, Africa and the middle east, is it? and its been going on for centuries but those victims have no voice unless its the subject of a hollyweird movie! and god bless the producers of that piece of sh.t movie. good effort however, they are scraping the surface... you're welcome
