Visiting Hours

I wish heaven had visiting hours
I'd carry a beer or two
And some meat to go
Cause I know my grandpa's would love that

I'd seat with them and let them just talk
For I'd love to hear how they were
For to me they were but stories
Cause I never got to see them, long gone before I was born

I'd want them to see how I've grown
To let them see that the lineage keeps on
And how the beautiful family tree
Is fruitful, we've got kids to mark each season

I'd tell them of how things are looking up for us
Cause they up here looking out on us
For we've never lacked even though they're gone
They both gave us strong grandma's

I'd let them know how grandma keeps waiting
Seating next to their favourite chair
Leaving his chair facing her
She sleeps saying a prayer to him every night

I wish heaven had visiting hours
So that I'd get to bond with my grandpa's
Cause I was named after one
And my big bro was named after the other

Vote of Thanks

When we all come together on days like this
To reminisce on the far that we've come
We ought to be grateful that we here like this
And grateful for the people that we've become

Cause when I was just but seven years
I thought that it was just me and my brother
Against this battle that is haemophilia and for years
I'd not met anyone who'd gone through a lot like me and my brother

But we never felt any different from others
We'd go to the same school as any other
And even though our condition to others
Was like a myth, we felt pain like any other

But with time being in hospital and being a wonder
My file got to be noticed and through my mum's contact
Slowly we'd get to hear that there were others like us, we weren't a wonder
We were just bits of a bigger beautiful picture, and we played a big part

So to the days that I stand here and wave
Giving messages of hope with my words
I'm grateful for all the mercies God gave
To everyone who made this possible, plus all who listened to my words

Disability Advocacy

It's funny how one might look down upon disability
And not regard it as an integral part of the society
Only for then to realize that in us still lies the ability
To cast a vote, and take part in changing the society

Cause a vote once casted takes its own cause
And a vote doesn't have a disability
So it counts and when it's cast it sets out a course
In the many numbers that would want accountability

Many times for the sake of image in politics
Disabled might get the limelight
And show people how they care about us in their tricks
To get votes but still our plight won't be given the light

We've seen how for just being differently abled
One is not seen as a worthy candidate
Instead told to wait it out, cause we labeled
Labeled as people who get in through nominations to date

Yet we can stand and chant out our slogans
And come up with better policies for us
But the same hierarchy of government organs
That claim to support our status, are still not working for us

And to date, we still facing discrimination
But we still keep voting for change
Voting in a better government for the good of the nation
So that one day, we as the persons with disability feel the change

Women Empowerment

As a girl my dad was always my pillar
Making me always take centre stage
Telling me that just like a caterpillar
I'm young today but like a butterfly ?? I'll come of age

That once I grow up I need to own my glow
To always put my head up as I walk
That's why on the runway I flow
Like the words in this poem that also talk

He always told me that I don't need validation
That what I need is to believe in me
That for people to want to listen I need a vision
But all that can only start with me

For I know who the woman I want to be
And that everyone can only just watch
Just like how they watch when a bee
Does a dance round a flower across the porch

He told me not to be afraid to go forward
And speak my truth everytime
He told me that it might feel awkward
But they'll come a time people would make time

They'll make time to come and listen to me
And heed what I have to say
Cause all it takes is me
To go forth and make a way

A way so that all who will come after me
Find a society of women empowered
Women who just like me
Went through strife because they dared

They dared to take a chance to bring change
So that every girl gets to go to school
So that their can be actual change
For women to be great and not a tool

And one day as mother I will always tell my girl
Don't stop glowing cause the world says so
Go get your shine on girl
For you different and you know so

Just Like You

If you feel like you all alone
Like there's no one who cares if you gone
There millions of us just like you
We just not showing it like you

We all wanted to get fine lines
But some of us are doodles
Jumbled up and messed up lines
That's why you can't read our noodles

We all have our twisted ways
From a cross eye look when you viewing the mirror
Or the many screwed up days
That are a bare reflection of what you are, less clearer

We all a little bit broken
That's why we don't mind lies
Cause we don't need to more broken
Knowing that maybe there's nothing beyond the skies

We all miserable one way or another
That's why we have our bad days
Where we lean on one another
When everything feels soggy in so many ways

We might seem to have it all figured out
But we just making our own way
It might seem like the way out
But it's not, we just took a different way & it paid off

Political Party

It goes without say how most times
We vote for the party and not the person
That's why we've seen many times
We don't really vote in the right person

There's something about being in a party
Being under people who've been at it
It's from the political party
That one grows politically, right at the heart of it

Forming alliances within the party ranks
People who not only just share ideas
They even finance you into those ranks
Bringing to reality your vast ideas

At times in the primary party elections
One is forced to take a seat back
And wait it out in the coming elections
Being told next time we'll have your back

But with time in the political party
Voicing your opinions you get attention
And even when you not the one in the seat for the party
You'll be the man consulted for your vision

Albinism

As a kid walking round the school corridors
I'd get people eyeing me a lot, open doors
As they try and look at my white skin
And marvel at my skin
For I was different

I got picked on at times for having a cap
I'd wear it alot so one day I didn't come to school with a cap
And they looked even more at my hair
They wondered what I did to my hair
Cause everyone else hair was black

During break I'd be playing in tree shades
Jumping from one tree to the other with shades
And they'd wonder why I never played in the sun
Some saying that I missed out on the fun
Cause the beauty of playing out is actually playing under the sun

But when we grew up in the bigger classes
People had grown used to me so when I came with glasses
They would always tell me how the glasses were nice
And the kids were now all genuinely nice
And it felt nice being there with them

So when the heat would be too much
They'd all walk around me in a match
Trying to shelter me with their shadows
Saying that they were here for me, even opening doors
So that I could explore the world and not just lock myself in

And now as a grown up with a kid of my own
I've got friends who treat my kid as their own
They protect my kid as theirs and play with him
And letting their kids be around him
Telling them that he's just like any other kid

House of Cards

I've been living in the house of cards
That I can almost know your move
Cause I've seen how the cards shuffle
And how the games have been played

I learnt all this while growing up in the house
By age of seven, I could keep a straight face
And bluff while I had my face on
I had no room for being played

I had a heart of aces,
A poker heart, a true art
That's why i was good at games
Cause I knew when to bend the rules

I learnt the game then the players
That I should never up my hand
Cause that would only raise stakes on me
And only make it harder for me to win

I learnt that I can't do it all alone
That's why at every table I sat
I made sure I made a friend
One that always has my back

I'D Want

I'd want to grow old with you
Watch you have grey hair day by day
See you forget to put your make up on
Cause you fine with how you aging

I'd want to see you fall asleep
As we watch our favourite shows
To hear you snore cause you don't need to be perfect
I'll have grown to every bit of you and what you bring

I'd want to feel your palms on mine
To see how the folds on your hands sag
And instead of hiding you just fine with it
Cause you like how you aging

I'd want to see you glow from every bite
As we go out just me and you
Have other dates under the skies
When it's just me and you and the stars

I'd want to see you all grumpy
When the kids making all sorts of noise
Cause all you'll crave is silence
And maybe at times you'd wish that there were no kids

I'd want to taste the food you cook for us
Cause I know it would be spoonfuls of love
So that by the time we in our sixties
I'm so deep in your love

I'd want to introduce you every where I go
So that they know I have someone as great as you
That wherever you are I'm there
Cause you'll compliment as me there

I want to show you off to the world
That from all men you saw
You just had eyes for me
And that you okay with spending eternity with me

I'd want that as I die I'm assured that,
you not lonely or all alone
So I'd leave you a pet
So that it comforts you when I'm gone

Grains of Time-Love Till Death-

I'll bid by time
Telling myself we'd grow old together
And that given just the right amount of time
We'd be inseparable & we will die together

I've loved you from my younger days
When I had all my life ahead of me
But even then I was eager to change my ways
Cause I wanted you for me

I've loved you from my mid twenties
When I was just another boy with a dream
Now we in our eighties
And I've achieved more than I could dream

For most of my dreams are my reality
One being waking up next to you
Been by your side for most of eternity
Always here to cherish and love you

I was sure I'd marry you
A befitting wedding for a queen
Cause I wanted it to mean something to you
Of how I can't put a number to what you mean to me

I bought my first house at that groove
Named the whole street after you
And made it grand like the Louvre
Cause in it houses my most important piece, that's you

Gave my life everyday for you
Worked hard for every sun
And every night I was there with you
Cause we'd make moments quiet fun

I've been through alot with you
Almost thought that we won't last
But I never for one day gave up on you
Cause for me you were always my first

My first woman that love felt right
The one who made me to the man I am
The one whom we've fought a good fight
Saddled up on my right arm

And even in our last days of this earth
All alone cause our kids have left the nest
I'd still want to walk with you on the path
Of love cause all the years we've shared, have been the best
