Canticles of Necropolis

From silken mists scarred stones give tongue
To canticles raised to twilit drear,
Of frolicked hours when seasons were young,
And Promise chastised every fear.
Once brightly smiled upon our days
The kindly sun of Life's beauteous womb,
The reaching hearts, our breathless gaze
Died not nor sleeps within this tomb,
But thunders soft from lips long stilled
No lonely dirge, nor dour 'plaint,
For 'neath these cold mounds Love's not stilled,
Nor slumbers lame with voiceless throat,
It whispers yet though rude encased,
E'en past Death's flowered moat
Too strong a song to be effaced...

The Unforgotten

I'll walk alone these fields again
Which once I strode with you,
Midst whispered songs on sighing winds
Give voice to the joys we knew...

I'll ponder the thousand yesterdays
Where once our hearts had played,
'Pon twilit meads of the long ago
Where Love's sweet toll was paid.

A tender, bitter tear I'll weep
For the passing our dream,
And for the eyes which once embraced me
With their deep-souled wistful gleam...

Betrothal

Swoon now, enraptured Melancholy,
Betroth these heavy hours-
Wield thy sceptred dulcetude
O'er my soul's mist-sighing bowers!
For there yet weep unwearied ghosts,
And hungring hopes of weighted dream,
Of the unsolaced heart long shorn of dawn
That no yearning can e'er redeem...

Sinewed Fire

Youth's sure, sinewed fire of limb and gait,
Reside not long not tarries late.
The unetched silk of fair Morning's face
Dons so swift a different grace,
As boastful Dawn must e'er defer
To the granite reign of Time...

Holy Mountain

As now into a holy mountain my soul makes
Pilgrimage to your side,
My heart unto your lips ascends,
For it is my heart that bears its kiss,
And in that swift-footed moment it
Trembles there, a captive sparrow,
Who'd taste of an eternal nectar,
A sweet elixir of bitterest joy
And thusly drunk take flight
To the very reaches of Love's
Full orbit.

Umbra

Dolor's a thousand elegancies
Abiding within the heart-
A dark-bloomed garden sighing soft
Its tutelage to impart...
