Hold My Hand

Life was meant to be fair.
Or at least that is what I have been told. 
Growing up a minority in a small town definitely comes with its up and downs.
To be chosen last because of your race.
Time and time again I was never given the upper hand. 
Whether in school, sports, or in any public altercation.
This left me thinking that I would never win the race.
But who said life was a race anyways.
Not letting the predicament I was in ruin my pace.
Pushing through every moment of diversity as if it was my last.
Regardless of the harsh words and menacing stares.
Believing in a higher road to chase was worth all the glares.
Holding my own hand along the way.
