Neighborhood Narcissist

Engagement is tempting,
But ignoring them
Is far better,
They’ll probably
Find new victims,
Yet with time,
Light crushes darkness.

Dancing With Reality

It was only after
She left him
That his dreams
Began to dance
With reality.

Playing God

The custody evaluator’s
Grand plan,
Playing God with
Other people’s lives,
What could
Possibly go wrong.

The Spoils

A union,
That never,
Should have,
Happened,
Is finally,
Over,
And he isn’t,
Sure,
If she could’ve,
Taken more,
Than she did,
He just knows,
That she took,
A lot,
Too much,
Way too much,
More than she should’ve,
Ever,
Been allowed,
To take.

So Much More

It’s his first time
Visiting Brevard
Since London
Got her wings,
He misses
His dear
Little dog
So much,
Such a
Special lady,
That London,
A personality
Big enough
To fill
A museum,
And so
Much more.

Old Anxieties

He remembers
When his marriage
Was in trouble
And he remembers
When he did
Everything he
Possibly could
For her
On Mother’s Day
And at the end
Of that day,
Before putting
The kids to bed,
She looked into
His eyes
And said hey,
Thanks for today,
And then she
Kissed him
On the forehead,
And now that
He’s alone,
He sure is glad
That he no longer
Has to worry
About his marriage
Being in trouble.

Rotten

It isn't just incompetence
That leads a custody evaluator
To to clean up messes
For bad actors,
To justify
The unjustifiable,
To gloss over
The vital,
It isn’t just incompetence,
It's the rotten system
That the custody evaluator
Has been marinating in.

The Obvious Party

She's not
The marrying type,
He wishes
That he
Were not so late
To the obvious party.

Thanksgiving, 2023

His first Thanksgiving
Without London,
That amazing queen,
He still refreshes
Her water bowl
Every morning
And remains
So grateful
For everything.

Still on the Couch

He started sleeping
On the couch
Years ago,
The main room
Where the couch is
Is where London
Wanted to be,
And he wanted
To be with her,
Even though
London is gone,
He’s not ready
To go back
To his bed.
