Unbound

We are bound by the shackles in our minds
Stripped of our identities
Replaced by numbers
Grouped by the color of our skin
Killed by our own

Wasting away by the wayside
Overlooked by our environment
Forgetting what we come from
Accepting what we are taught

Slowly we loose ourselves
Reimagining a new self
To fit in to what would make you feel safe
Just to loose ourselves again

We were kings and queens
Society made us pawns
We were masters of our own destiny
Now we look over our shoulders

The shackles are fragile
Easily broken
We are not lambs to the slaughter
Just like the sun we will rise.

Now You Know

If I could turn back the hands of time
I would replay every moment  that I spent with you
I've traveled the world
And I'm amazed by it's beauty
But in my eyes it's beauty can't compare to what I see in you
You are stuck in my head like a melody
A song my heart sings
For only in a dreams we are together
But miss you in reality
Your smile lights the dark sky
And the gentle breeze whispers your name
Your eyes twinkle like the stars
The warmth of your heart could melt the coldest ice
Being in your presence is like winning the lottery
To get to know you is like wanting to hear your favorite song on repeat
If only I could tell you
Instead I keep it mostly to myself
You are a fine wine
Precious and rare
One day I would tell you this
But until then I will keep it locked away

Disappear

I disappear to hide my feelings
Burying them in the sea of forgetfulness
Dancing in the fields of pain and sorrow
Laying in the space of emptiness
Embracing the feelings of loneliness
I disappear to hide my feelings
Locking them up in a bottomless box
Tying the key to a dying star
Burning the box with the flame that burns hotter than the sun
I disappear to hide my feelings
Understanding what can not change
Accepting what it is
Knowing what it can never be
I disappear to hide my feelings
Laughing to keep from crying
Moving forward to keep from looking back
Disappearing to kill the feelings what's in my heart
I disappear to hide my feelings
Feelings that I once had for you
