Eyes Like a Pot of Honey

today i sat down on my phone,
hoping to find something fun,
but instead to find something to make my mind run,
longing for something that would make it slow down,
at least to a jog,
when i saw your name my heart began to pound,
a rhythm to make your breathing heavy and your back weak,
where you fold like a piece of string and fall into a sleep,
a slumber you never seem to wake up from but still somehow learn to sleepwalk through life,
i can never seem to get you out of my head,
as soon as i think i’m over you somehow all the memories seem to come back to me,
the night where i saw you for the first time in what felt like an eternity,
even though we were little i never forgot your smile and deep brown eyes,
eyes you could get lost in,
eyes like a pot of honey,
the honey that gets stuck on your fingers you can never get off,
just like you,
stuck in my head like honey.

The Beach

At the Beach, people play in the sand and watch the waves go by.

Maybe they will take a stroll on the boardwalk by the shore.

Or binging on taffy, a childhood dream.

Back To Back Then

dandelions and honey,
trees and the red fire truck jungle gym,
ice cream, the lake, pink ball.
take me back to back then.
white house’s and big windows,
my doll house, that one back road.
please take me back to back then.
the red door next door,
my family.
please just one more day back to where everything was simple and sweet,
please oh please take me back to back then.

A Normal Poem!

i’m going to write a poem that isn’t about you.
i’m going to write a poem that doesn’t talk about how you made me feel.
i’m going to write one that has a beginning and end; one different from ours.
one without an abrupt end and a heart racing start.
one that won’t mention the whirlwind of our love, the interlocking of our fingers, and the loss we felt.
a poem without that.
how hard could that be?

Ad Astra Per Aspera

i’m not sure of who i am going to be.
but that’s how it is supposed to be right?
i have many many dreams, some big and some little.
but, it always comes back to one.
i lay awake at night thinking of my dream and how i yearn to reach it.
every night like a hand out stretched to grab and take ahold of my dream.
never to release it.
as i get older i realize the intensity of my dream.
each day i get closer to the possibility of living it.
i’m not sure of how it will go or how it will happen.
but that’s how it is supposed to be right?

What I Wish For You

the sweet plucking of loose guitar strings,
a bedroom window open with sheer curtains blowing in the wind.
a tree in the far distance in a field of wildflowers,
the sun shining down.
the one you love humming a slow tune down the hall, and creaking floorboards beneath your feet.
a free space of peace and healing,
what i wish for you.

Us

I wish that we could talk the way that we used to,
where you would say something and make my heart flutter, or skip a beat.
But now it’s not the same, well at least like it used to be.
It’s the same identical responses every time.
I look forward to your call every night but somehow still don’t get one.
As I sit here writing this, you are probably asleep.
Not even thinking about me, like I think about you.
Thinking how you are the only person I want to see tomorrow and the last person I want to talk to.
But that will never happen.
You have left me on read for the last time and I have given up.
The words come easier than before and I think it is because my brain has given up. It has decided that I don’t need to continue down this dark path that I navigate through blindly.
Hoping to come out the other end in one piece.
But somehow every time another piece gets chipped off and my heart breaks slowly. I have given up on us, our friendship.
But I know that an “us” was never a possibility to you.
It was something you never thought would happen.

The Way You Love Me

god i love you
the way you look
the way you act
the way you are you
there are millions of reasons as to why i love you
but the main one is,
the way you love me,
the way you love me makes me feel like i’m dancing on clouds,
leaping back and forth losing my balance and falling down just so you can catch me and put me back onto my feet,
the way you do every time,
reassuring me everything will all be okay even when i feel as if it never will be.

Weather Haiku

changing very fast,
weather unpredictable
bringing winds that crash.

See You Later

you are gone from my life but not from my memory,
its no longer see you later,
your schedule changed and mine did too,
no longer do i see you walk to football with your too heavy bag strapped on your back,
not thinking about me.
music in our ears,
drowning each other out for different reasons,
walking away,
you are gone from my life but you will never be gone from my memory,
i hope to see you later.
