Survivor

SURVIVOR

As a child I was happy until I was five,
Then everything changed, how did I survive?
Instead of a kiss placed on my head,
Cruel spiteful words were all that I heard.
No loving cuddles, no hug goodnight,
Just hate and a feeling of terror and fright.

A brother and sister, that made us three,
But out of us all, he picked on me.
Who committed the crime, it didn’t really matter,
I was the one he’d reach out to batter.
With fist that were hard, at my body he tore,
Leaving me battered, black and blue on the floor

God, what did I do, was I really that bad?
Didn’t I deserve a sweet loving dad?
The Devil was sent to reek havoc and pain,
It’s no doubt a wonder why I’m not insane.
An adult I am with the heart of a tiger,
No longer a child, I’m a survivor.
