The Earth On Which She'D Walked

She was made of the Earth on which she walked,
built by the Love that, from her, poured,
brought to life by the light she shone,
imbued with the innocence that, in all, she saw.
She sang her heart to every sunbeam,
danced her joy for all the Ocean,
painted life upon the Cosmos,
wore the wisdom of each mountain.
She communicated with the trees,
felt the warmth from distant stars,
cradled the souls of the beings she'd meet,
did all that she could to inspire good hearts.
She tended the fires of every sunset,
wandered in cloudscapes all over the planet,
her shadow rejoiced in the full moonlight,
her spirit brushed lifetimes it couldn't forget.

She swam in the night
and flowed with the seasons,
played among air currents,
and bathed in the heavens..

But she saw that not all was right in the world,
and her gentle heart hurt to perceive so much wrong.
She ached with the suffering people inflicted,
and never quite felt she could truly belong..

She crumbled under the waste of greed,
mourned the impediment of impatience,
was torn apart by lies and hatred,
and shattered by all the needless violence..
She bled the oil pulled from the ground,
grieved over prejudice and separation,
wept the blood of billions enslaved,
and cried for mercy, in desperation.

Every war was a cardiac arrest.
Every tree cut down, asphyxiation.
Every polluted river, sepsis.
Every species wiped out was an amputation.

She lost the innocence she no longer saw,
and dimmed was the light she struggled to shine.
She stemmed the Love that barely poured
and sank back to the Earth on which she'd walked.

Today I'M Going Dark

Today I'm going dark.
Trying not to fall apart..

Within my mind a shadow lights a spark,
and burns a blackness in my heart.

I Want You:

I don't want to tie you down,
I want to fly with you.
I don't want to march your feet along the ground,
I want to run with you.
I don't want your heart, to me alone, be bound,
I want to journey Love with you.
To discover new realms within, with you.
To compose a melody, with a rhythm we can dance, with you.

I don't want to clip your wings,
I want to spread them for you.
I don't want to force upon you Earthly things,
I want to see Heaven with you.
I don't want to dictate your heart a song to sing,
I want to harmonize with you.
To write a tale to tell, with you.
To light a fire, where others gather for warmth, with you.

I don't want to guide your path,
I want to light it for you.
I don't want to be the holder of your heart,
I want to touch it, where it beats, in you.
I don't want to be the one you call your 'other half',
I want to feel you whole, as you.
To adventure time and space with you.
To be each other's catalysts, to make all our own dreams come true.

I don't want to own your smile.
I don't want to shape your style.
I don't want to be your heart's denial.

I want you
To just be you,
And to just want me
To be me too..

Behind the Curtains

It's cold behind the curtains.
The frost is settling in.
The icicles hanging from the roofs
are drying in the wind.
The Moon is getting colder
as day gives way to night;
one owl's ruffled plumage:
a rest for lunar light.
From chimneys rise the wintry scents
of burning firewood,
keeping warm the occupants
of a sleepy neighbourhood.
The oak and beech quiescent,
all the ash and hazel too.
Dormant in the twilight
of a year that's almost through.
The solid ground is sparkling,
the crispy grass is full of stars.
This winter's fallen leaves
wear delicate coats of frosted glass.
So little sound is in the air,
you can almost hear the cold..
With the gentle caressing of the wind
upon a peaceful world.
Underneath the icy Moon,
in its bitter, twinkling night,
the owl spreads her silent wings
and takes to silver flight.

The Softness In Your Words

I hear a softness in your words.
They may be only written, but they speak to me in your voice.
Gentle, like the whispering of snowflakes to the ground as they lovingly alight upon it.
It's hard to ignore the possibilities of your meaning as they arise and tickle my eager neurons.
I'm unsure whether to believe their suggestions whilst they slip down my spinal cord to appeal to my heart.
It's difficult not to let them lift me into a fantasy world with their warm, inspiring influence on my soul.
I do not need them to be true, my life is lit brightly enough just by my knowing you.
And I fear this may all fall to pieces if they were..
But a part of me, a big part, wants them to be..
That part has no fear, knows only love.
Innocent and immense.
An intensity beyond mere emotion.
A great movement of spirit.
Untamed, and untameable.
Wild, like the Universe itself.
If those possibilities are true, could we just be friends in love?
I wish I knew how to say all this to you for real,
without the fear of hurting our rapport..
More than anything I just want to know what to do with my hypermelodious heart..

One Simple Moment

As the song of the River cleanses my mind
I am gently caressed by reflection.
And whilst the Sun's touch softly sinks through my skin
I contemplate Our connection.
As the Spirits of air lightly play with my hair
I embrace their loving convection.
While the voice of a robin dances into my heart
and reminds me of all Life's perfection.

Poetic Precipitation

Sometimes, when it rains it pours..
There is no time to take a pause.
You drip a drop atop a page,
and suddenly an ocean's rage
at being trapped inside a cloud
is roaring in you, clear and loud.
You prepare yourself - it's coming now..

A creative bolt, a mental rumble;
another heavy-landing globule
precedes another, and then some..
The poetic deluge has begun!
What to do but let it flow?
Or you'll never know where it could go..
Inspiration has a mind of its own..

Verbal torrent drenches paper.
There's no saving it for later.
Channel each word to its place -
with punctuation - to carry rhythm and pace.
A chosen few contribute rhyme.
A flow through every sodden line.
Yes, each drop will have its time..

Metaphors for every verse,
to quench an eager reader's thirst,
and similes inducing smiles,
like rainbows spanning wet sunny miles.
Some sentences so deeply profound,
it's lucky, in poetry, one cannot drown!

But now the monsoon's calming down..
The creative ocean's touched paper ground.
Fluidity's moving the odd bits around..

Puddles of words soak into their places,
while the poem's poetics dampen even its spaces.
Those post-downpour drips add their finishing touches -
at last they are free from that ocean-cloud's clutches!

Now the final few droplets have accomplished their fall..
It's time to dry off and read through it all.

How a Good Friendship Lasts

Share with me your mind, I want to hear it.
Spew forth your thoughts and feelings.
Describe to me your wildest dreams,
and get me clear on your biggest fears.

Don't underestimate the attentiveness of my listening ears.
Trust that you can tell me things that no one else will ever hear.
You can safely expect me to respect your truth.
And know the things I share with you will always be sincere.

Take me to your childhood, walk me around your inner world.
Impart the greatest lessons Life has taught you, new and old.
Entertain me with good memories, and recount the bad.
Relate the weirdest experiences that you've ever had.

Tell me of your darkness, and the ways you hurt yourself.
Divulge your deepest secrets and the patterns in your mental health.
Let me share the pain within your hidden vaults of shame.
I'll honour your openness and return the same.

We can help each other with the problems we perceive.
And review the different aspects of our personalities.
And taste the fruits of one another's creativity.
And debate and ruminate on the things we each believe.

Please elicit introspection, it can never go too deep.
No topic's off the table when the table's in front of me.
I'll do conversation 'til we've no choice but to sleep,
and I can swap ideas all night on what is reality..

Let's explore the Universe and see what we can find,
and dig deep into our philosophies on Time.
We can theorise about the meaning of Existence.
Our imagination is the treasure trove of our minds.

There are no limits to the places we can go.
You can ask me anything you'd really like to know.
I'll listen to you with an open mind and heart.
We'll get discourse down to an art.

Crack some jokes, we'll have a laugh.
Share your favourite stories of your past.
Talk all about your day today.
This is how a good friendship lasts.

In Darkness I Sit

Star spackled night sky.
In darkness I sit,
beneath the lights of The Milky Way.
They shine with a humble beauty
and remind me to look within.
Gazing out in introspection,
I'm struck by a realisation..
I am all that I see.
And all that I see is me.

An Inconsistent Contradiction of Paradoxical Dissonance

I was told to write a poem,
but that's not how it works.
A poem has to write itself,
one cannot force the words..

This seems like contradiction,
but really it is not.
As when I began to think about it
the words came on the spot..

You can't make me write a poem,
it'll happen in its time.
Don't think that you've succeeded
at pulling out a rhyme.

Let me wipe off that expression
of smugness from your face.
This will never happen again,
poems have their time and place..

Poetry is not a given,
even with a muse.
Words have their own freedom
to happen as they choose.

So offer me a topic
for my next poetic verse.
And I'll show you once again
that no one forces words..
