Social Animals

What if they played and no one came
To actually see the much talked about game?
Football...basketball..track and field too
They're not important, and neither is school.

Let's do these things with cameras and screens
Appropriate viewing for impressionable teens.
Don't venture out, just stay in your home.
You're better off there, safe and alone.

But kids need to get out and mingle with others.
While we may look different, we all are our brothers.
How does one grow if you're locked in a room
Viewing Grandma's service right there on the ZOOM?

Why Am I Here

Why Am I Here?

I went for a swim, just barely 18,
Trying to ride waves like I'd never seen.
Youth seems eternal, and I went without fins
Against such power, no human being wins.

Water walls rushing at me ten feet high,
Try jumping over, leaping for the sky.
Cannot touch bottom as I'm drifting out,
Difficulty breathing as I'm thrashed about.

Knocked underwater, spinning head over heels,
Can you imagine how scary that feels ?
It takes all your might to surface for air,
As another ten foot wave is suddenly there.

Fear is within me, am I going to die ?
A critical moment, I must fight, I must try.
Somehow, someway, I ride a wave in
Close enough to the shore to feel land again.

My friend and a lifeguard were coming to see
How I'd survived in that raging sea.
Was the hardest thing physically I've ever done
Some 50 years ago in the California sun.

Winter Night

Shut off the TV
Dim the lights and climb the stairs
A warm bed awaits.

Words That Lead To Wisdom

I was wrong.Sorry.
I need help and I don't know.
When said improve life.

Choices

Youth has fled, hair gone gray
Friends and family went away
Enjoy the seasons while I may
Stroll the city in the day.

Music & Art help fill the time
As can books on love and crime
Parks, the ocean, nature walks too
Happiness can come from a riverfront view.

Perhaps I won't see China or Rome
But I can visit friends at home
And talk of days and other places
While I see their smiling faces.
