A Change of Heart

Today was the same as every other day in quarantine. Wake up. Change into different PJs. Eat. Watch Netflix. Eat. And eat again. Go to sleep. Start over. Despite the repetition, there was a slight alter in the course of my day. As I grew ill of the feeling associated with lazily laying in bed without anything productive to do, I decided to get fresh air. I aired up the old basketball and shot in my driveway like the old days. It caused me to reminisce on a love I once held. The hours I spent imagining I was Maddie off of a Disney show or anybody else that was not me. The times I tried to show off for passing cars just in case they were recruiters for a professional team. The competitiveness I created within myself to win the games I made up in my mind. From the moment I got home from school, I would grab a snack and be out there. It was my escape from anything and everything. Why did it change? Why is my escape my phone now? Instead of the sound of the ball dribbling against the cement square, it is aimlessly scrolling through Tik Tok to distract me from the world. So, as the night grew darker, my eyes adjusted and so did my mentality. The child-like love for the game grew with it and I felt like myself again.
