The Final Act

I come from a family of thespians
Who turned hiding their problems into art.
Inside these walls,
We cry. We yell.
But from within these walls,
The sounds never depart.

Yet,
somewhere among the act,
I lost the talent.

My heart can't hide anymore.
My eyes sting, my throat burns--
They're all pretending
but my heart's just too sore.

What show will be my final?
In what performance will I truly break?
I keep pushing to my limits,
I swallow the pain but
I'm full past what I can take.

Things aren't the same,
They may never be.
But, that's okay because
the only person I really have is me.
I scream into the abyss,
and bleed on those who never cut me.

Yet, I tuck it all away
Like the world cannot see.

Maybe the biggest actress of all is me.
Acting as if the pain is transparent--
Like there's nothing to set free.
While those who really love me
stand at arms length,
As I push with all I have,
They beg me to let them love me.

Oh, how easy to see:
The biggest pretender is me.

Misguided

"Know your worth"--

But they never tell you
Whose eyes to look through.

The Tale of a Beacon

But the question then to be asked remains:
What is the source of the light?
To be a lighthouse is delightful--
Unless, the possibility of the light dimming
Suddenly appears throughout the mind.

Then, slowly but surely,
The old mariner shall dim the light,
Hoping to protect its shine
By hiding its potential.

Yet, what is there then,
But a lighthouse who's lost its purpose?
The fishermen remain at sea,
Searching for a smidge of hope;
But fear has won the war;
A light that once guided has become
Lost in its own identity.

Our God Is Bountiful

Our God is Bountiful because
His Might spreads throughout
The Chasm of the Unknown.
He pours His heart throughout every inch of the universe—
Drenching creation in
Love.
Grace.
Mercy.

How blessed are We
Who shall be called Redeemed?
Filled with His Goodness,
Abiding in His Immensity—
Just because He is He.
Our God is bountiful because He. Is. He.

Presence

As I traversed beneath the early morning glow-
With cotton candy skies illuminating the beginning hours--
I found my heart calling to your in the midst of the beauty,
Begging to bask in its glory with you by my side.

Power

‘Tis more than an artistic dilemma.

Should the color be red? Perhaps blue?
Those in control have no value over
Me.
                      Or You.

Puppets on a string, we are-
A single word from the “chosen ones”
And we gnash our teeth.
And we shake our fists.
And we cut down
the only people who truly understand us.

How controlled,
How broken—
‘Tis more than an artistic dilemma.
