Petals

I'd swap time again and again
                                  just to break your fall
                                  and keep you from shatters

if only it means cradling your breath again and again
        If Only.

Desire

I choose to sit on the fence.
                                       saddling raging passion.
                                       taming the unruly mane
threatening to sway out of control
                                       promising to imprison reason.

I choose to make my bed on the fence.
Here in the open I can hug away huddles
that intimidates a union of souls
and stand in the way of your warm caresses
                                      speeding unhurriedly down my spine.

I love to settle on the fence.
This is where I can watch the sunset
and think of all the passions You ignite in me.

I won’t change anything about You---
Like the soft yellowing edges of the sunset,
I will let you be
Original. Authentic. True. Unusual

Friction

Scorned!

Tag Me
		Label Me
		    With Derision, treat me
Liken me to a wet disgust
The scrawny dog dragged from the gutter depths.

Still I Shine.
I am Ablaze.
Adorned with fiery darts of pearly strings.

I am choosing to ignore the peculiarities
									Of my confinement.
Shackling off identities of cultural definition

Put me to bed with pasquinade.
Cloth me with double portions
		of traduce and slander.

Give me vilipends for a pillow
Carefully tuck me in with slur and trash
Dim the slut of my bedside lamp.

Watch me flutter my eyelid in restful slumber.
Hear me snore in gratitude.
Be sure of one thing-
My Outshining When I Rise.
This is the dawn of a new era

I am an alien to Your presumed assumptions
I laugh confidently
through my gap-teeth
and smiles fill my dimpled cheeks.

An Invocation

An Invocation
Owusu Ansah!
		He birthed water
		it retained its wetness
		the water was not licked
						dry.

Break your wooden confines!
				Get out!
				Get off!
				Get up!
Shake off the
		Pincers,
                        the vein grippers.
				Come Back!

Madam,
they go deaf,
that is the price
they pay
	for desertion.
They cannot hear
		or won’t hear.
Suddenly!
	A warm moving mass
	of agility. Passion. boundless energy
        			becomes
STIFF. COLD. UNMOVING. ALIEN.

Ascension

Ascension

Let this cup pass me by,
			this cross I must bear!
This path was long crafted by the ancestors,
I will not tread on sacred grounds!
Too often the heart skips a beat,
			relief resides in knowledge
a busy path grows no grass!
It does not matter if the grass hides coils of gold-speckled mambas.

Trust me girl,
they will try to quench your fire,
labelling it rebellion.
Hold on dear,
Go on an introspection tour
Pack a healthy dose of isolation
Include an appreciable amount of adrenalin
Tuck away isolation

			and discover yourself anew!

Phoenix Rising

Phoenix Rising

Feminine!
This goddess of contrasting shadows,
Silently cast her benevolence Misery’s way,
bathing Him in glows of confidence.

I salute you
I hail you
I worship you

Phases

Phases

Two minutes…

                    	Red sea parted
                    	Israel crossed sea
                    	Egyptian soldiers perished

Two minutes…

                    	Lazarus burst forth
                    	Bartimaeus regained sight
                    	Mary become mummy

Two minutes…

                    	Impossible became possible
                    	Tears wiped away
                    	Laughter was restored

                                                                                	Two Minutes…
                                                                                	Two Minutes…
