In the Glen

A gentle breeze sways the waters
peaceful mirrored surface.
Fading light weaves between the ripples,
shadows dancing with a dichroic radiance.

No wind whipped waves lashing
the snow covered beach.
No visitors skinny dipping
in the icy cold depths of the loch.

No sound of feast hunters
scurrying through the undergrowth.
The piercing eyes of the barn owl
quietly staring, patiently waiting.

No traffic danger lurking,
deer lick salt from the tarmac.
No dogs running loose, free to chase
the vulnerable, pregnant cows.

People cocooned in their stone cottages
A façade of bravery, overlaying fear.
Rules, restrictions, isolation, queues.
The unknown, unseen virus is here.

Time

Time

Time to do the things
you never had time for.
Time to talk to neighbours
you never had time to talk to.
Time to discover technology
to watch the Sunday morning service.

Time to listen to the birdsong
and watch butterflies searching for nectar
Time to watch the flowers bloom
and enjoy their delicate shades of colour.
Time to tidy and trim the borders,
Plant the veg and cut the grass, again!

Time to cook a meal with fresh food
and make bread with fresh yeast.
Time for the barbeque
you meant to have last summer.
Time to enjoy the taste of wine
in the company of loved ones.

Time to say thank you Lord,
for every day you breathe easily.
Time to sit and quietly contemplate
a new beginning, unfolding around us.
Time to rediscover your priorities
and who you really are.
