Hey Mama

Hey Mama - Monique Whittingham

Hey mama, it's been a while you know
you said, you'd come see, a very long time ago
and I prayed that you'd come visit, just once in a while
Oh I really, truly miss the way you've always made me smile.

Hey mama, don't you miss your baby girl?
I've been writing you letters, just wanting to come home and
I never meant, to be bad and I promise you I've changed
No toys, no gifts required, I'll even get better grades.

Hey mama, it seems you've moved on
just a babe, when you left me and now... now I'm twenty one
I'm tired of being a bother, I'm now convinced that you don't care
No longer am I waiting, no longer - shed I a tear.

Hey mama, I finally understand,
why never visited and why, why you never came
You wanted something better, a good life for me
Your body is dying, you have a deadly disease.

Hey mama, I found your new address
can't wait to finally see you, to tell you all that you have missed
I'm taking my family to see, they're as happy as can be
I told them every story, I conjured up from memories

Hey mama,I was on my way,
to work I got a phone call - saying you had passed away
Even now you disappoint me, why did you have to go
I just wanted to hug and kiss you, never wanting to let go

Hey mama, hey! Don't you miss your baby girl?
