The Road Ahead of Me

The road ahead of me
Looks rough and hard to travel
The road ahead of me
Is making me unravel

You can never understand
If you’re not in my shoes
You try to give me a hand
But can’t see from my point of view
Sometimes even I don’t get it
Why I feel this way
But I feel like I could just quit
Every single day

You think I’m just not satisfied
But it’s not that
With my personality it’s amplified
And I just feel bad, bad, bad

The road ahead of me
Is looking dark and scary
The road ahead of me
Is far too much to carry

I feel what they all feel
Multiplied by twenty
It’s a win-lose deal
Feeling full or empty
Being too compassionate
Is a sort of problem
It can also be quite fortunate
But it’s hard when everyone’s watching

Sometimes I feel unsatisfied
But I don’t think it’s that
Everything is amplified
And it crushes me flat

But it gets easier
With a good friend to lean on
Suddenly you have a cheerleader
Suddenly you feel calm

The road ahead of me
Is looking brighter now
The road ahead of me
Is not so lonely now

Beauty

There is beauty in
This giant beautiful world
If you will just look

Everything We Need

There can be love in this world
Though it is invisible.
Floating softly through the air
Like a feather,
Cannot be tethered.
Without love, what would we be?
A few billion animals, that’s all anyone would see.
All that’s left of what we used to know,
Floating through the air like invisible snow.

There can be joy in this world,
Though the world is dark.
The sounds of laughter flowing,
Through the air they’re blowing.
Without joy, what would we be?
A few billion crying,
Dying
Sad people.
We need these sounds of laughter,
Of joy and play and chatter.

There can be hope in this world,
Though all will try to bring us down,
Telling us,”You can’t, you won’t, you’ll mess it up.”
But we never can believe that junk.
We can do it all,
Even if there’s a 20-mile wall.
Just believe and then,
That wall will fall,
You can do it all,
We need this hope.

Say What You Want

Say what you want
About our family bonds
But we love each other
We care for one another
Yeah, say what you want
About fishin’ in that pond
But I’m a country girl
I might not find a pearl, but
I’m proud of where I’m from
Where music’s an acoustic guitar strum
Singin’ in the church
Yeah you can search
For somewhere better, but
You’ll never find what
You’re looking for
Say what you want
About that old storefront
But it’s what I’m used to
Even if it’s not for you
Yeah, say what you want
About my Nana’s kitchen
No, it ain’t a restaurant
But it’s my favorite spot, and
I’m proud of where I’m from
Where music’s an acoustic guitar strum
Singin’ in the church
Yeah you can search
For somewhere better, but
You’ll never find what
You’re looking for
Where everyone’s welcome
And that wedding where we all wore denim
Where I was born and raised
NC, USA
I’m proud of where I’m from
Where music’s an acoustic guitar strum
Singin’ in the church
Yeah you can search
For somewhere better, but
You’ll never find what
You’re looking for
