Uncomfortable Comfort

The past scoops me up
and hovers over the depths of my emotions,
drawing the lines of reactions
and taking me closer to undoubted results.

Experience guides me
ever reminding me of times gone by
and luring me only to predictable things to come,
somehow holding me captive,
allowing no room for reckless chance.

How comforting, the familiar.
How foolish the secret desire
to venture into the strangeness
of new surroundings.

Yet change is provocative.
A misty glimpse of things anticipated
but not yet reality calls to me,
causing the stirring of the unfamiliar
to quicken my spirit,
leaving me gently shaken, wanting more.

Let Me

Let me touch
your furrowed brow,
etched deep the painful trace.
Apply the balm of peacefulness,
raw memories erase.

Let me warm
the chill felt now
within your troubled soul.
With soft caress and lover's kiss,
retrieve the fire she stole.

Let me mesh
my heart with yours,
unearthing treasures rare.
Release the turmoil deep within,
and let me linger there.

Replace

I cozy up..
not wanting the cold to seep down further
into my already shaking being
somehow blinded by the fact
that the chill was begun deep and long ago
unable to shake the icy beast.

Sleep eludes me..
The tired body and drooping eyes seem
no match for the raging of remembered past
overtaking my thoughts, tormenting my future,
dashing all hope of now forgotten peace
and disturbing the pretense of nightly rest.

Be still, my thoughts.
Create a void. Let calm instead
take hold of dark and captive stay
long past the morning's giving light.
Replace with fresh directions straight
toward sweet tomorrow's warm embrace,
pierce through the cold where trust awaits.

Inward

Silence. All but the scratching of a pencil,
blocked out by a far away place.
Words never spoken, cease to be heard.
Eyes seeing nothing, never telling what they saw.
A state of mass confusion, although forever quiet.
Life, my soul, my mind.

I sit in a room filled with people not there.
Puzzled, yet knowing everything never told.
"I love you" comes out. Why so easily said?
Love's not really there, yet it's rapidly growing.
Understanding everything but really knowing nothing.
Life, my soul, my mind.

Shades of Gray

When the sweet sun begins to kiss the dark moon
and squirrels have spent light’s quickening play,
the shadows begin to fall quiet much longer,
pushing against the deep shades of gray.

When bird’s voices sing silent awaiting the morn
and flowers fast lose their color’s display,
the sharp seems to soften, lost senses still straining,
pushing against the deep shades of gray.

Scars

Between the shadows of the past
within reflections, mirrored glass
I see the hurt. It's holding fast
beneath the smiling face.

Among the memories, I regret
I haven't figured out just yet
Why does it stay? Why can't I let
it be another place?

Yet, to the forefront it remains
with present situation reigns.
I must admit my heart complains
it's presence can't erase.

Wistful

Oh sweet strong knight
beckoning
all the whispers smooth
against my tattered soul
To my delight
revealing
senses so much more
beneath the hidden show
My being melts
exposing
weaknesses set free
to be replaced by glow
