Defenseless

I am just a swollen bloated thing in this harsh world
Nothing here but the laws of physics upon me hurled
No safety, power, decision is mine as I am uncontrollably twirled

Under and over and across the sweltering haze
Never before feeling, always fleeing from the gaze
Now it is just me… alone… caught up in a daze.

The ramparts have fallen, all is mis-aligned, broken;
The wreckage of my thoughts you left as mere token.
Untidy answer I wish was unspoken!

Everything, everyone caterwauling at me in my alien world
Eyes upon me, I cannot escape from this demented gaze
Ears ringing from pain - from curses unspoken.

Slivers of Light

A thousand yellow and orange slivers of light vibrate.
Their heat permeates.
Slowly they glide into pairs and groups, singing as one.
Alas, this solitary yellow light remains.

The others have no use for it.
The loathe it for it is an abomination.
Is it really that different?
Is it not one of them?

It grows to detest itself,
Its rhythm is destructively interfering with itself
The other lights for a moment survey the frantic,
They see not its abhorrence of itself.

And If they could- Why should they care?

Faceless Devotion

Is there anyone who would hear the dreams I conceive?
Profit, pleasure, protection - ‘tis all they know to love!
They would laugh at my hopes till I doubt what I believe.
They bury me deep so it’s quiet up above …
And I would forget all to gain sweet reprieve,
But then life is a gift I’d be unworthy of.

What in the end can one ever know, ever claim?
Does anyone understand the person, the concept?
Of the entire world I am not the one to blame.
No one wants to see, so all of my tears are inside unwept.
In the end, I must be the one who stays in the game!
I must be the one to myself accept.

Once again my eyes are glued- the screens enhance
Before me a lie, a trick befalls, that good ol’ football
Oh YES! They care to make sure I am in this loathsome trance
They care about me so long as they can play me- their idiotic doll
Does anyone really love me, “unique”, in this game of chance?
No. The only one who does is this half-empty glass of alcohol.

The Shining Gatsby

Are you concerned about me?
Yes I'm talking to you Daisy.
What should be done with him?
Our situation with Tom is very dim.

I don't think thats true.
You only loved me.
Now stop with this vile spew!
Come get in my golden car and let us flee.

I think you have some very definite ideas about what should be done with Tom!
And yes, next time I will remain calm.
Oh look out!
You hit her- quickly take that route!

So you think Myrtle's health might be at stake?
Well you shouldn't have run her over for God's sake!
Now you say you are shaking from this incident with the car.
Of course you are!

So now you say you want to be left alone...
Have you ever had a single moment's thought about my responsibilities?
Daisy I have pledged myself to your own!
I promised to fight off every man, to overcome all hostilities!

Daisy has it ever occurred to you that I have agreed to look after you?
That I have signed a letter of agreement, a contract!
For your sake my whole life is driven, myself made anew.
But I will wait for tomorrow- then, our union shall be made exact.
